knight Medieval Instruments Of The Middle AgesThere is always an interesting take on what has happened through the course of history, all of them distinct in their own respect. While the past have earned the memories that we have of it, they have resulted to what has become of us and the society today. As part of the great stretch of European history, The Middle Ages is characterized by three periods, one of which is the Medieval period. When the Roman Empire lost its hold over power, the Medieval took place, which later on gave way to the Renaissance. If we speak of the music that the earlier times had, medieval instruments proved to be very worthy in giving character to the period. And we all must admit that music is indeed a part of us, regardless of time.

Back then, the instruments were highly regarded because they were well in use. Now, with the modern times prominent and not going anywhere near extinction, the said instruments still exists and regarded as part of the great historical past, laced with nostalgia and a sense of wonder and pride. The original ones may have long been forgotten, but there are still remnants and the attempt to replicate such. Plucked stringed instruments were prominent during that period. Also, the music produced had two divisions, that of the sacred and the secular. Of course, there had to be some may in which the church was praised, thus the musicians who made melodies and lyrics that put the church in a positive light. Opposite of that, however, is the secular stream which may not be likened to attacks on the church, but rather there was just a separation from it. Secular music was intended for entertainment and carried the views of the common class that may have bordered into the political side of things. Travelers were bound to spread such messages, just instruments to carry with them as they moved from one place to another had to be light and portable, like bagpipes for example.

Every event that calls for the celebration of something like feasts and festivals needs an uplifting vibe, and medieval instruments were a great contributor to the overall hype of every festivity. For every event, there was a different genre played to evoke the needed mood, like weddings and lover’s music which brought out feelings of affection for example. And it was even said that listening to traditional medieval music was beneficial to digestion, thus families had the habit of tuning in during shared meals. The elders always had a belief up in their sleeve, and as to the veracity if such claim, we can only tell by direct confirmation of what has been.
