The Unwritten Language of Art:

For thousands of years, humans have lived with art in various forms. We surround ourselves with art, placing it on our floors, hanging it on our walls, and adorning our gardens. But why do we feel this need for art in our lives?

In this discussion, we will explore the fundamental question: why do we desire art to feel good?

When we read quotations from artists, we gain insight into the creative processes they undergo to achieve a finished masterpiece. Art transports artists to another world, a realm of creation and, perhaps, fantasy. Whether it represents life-like or abstract subjects, all art begins with an idea. As an artist myself, I understand this quite well. However, all ideas must originate from life, which serves as the stepping stones for countless imaginative creations.

Color and Art:

What happens when we encounter a color? Our spirits are uplifted, we feel freer, and our mood brightens. When we move into a new space with plain walls, it feels empty and hollow, even if it provides everything we need to stay warm and secure. What is it that tells us something is missing?

As an artist, I feel a sense of emptiness in such a space. Is it because I’m an artist and require art around me? I don’t believe so. I think all individuals, not just artists, feel this urge to bring color and hang pictures on the wall.

Association:

We all feel the need for art in our lives, regardless of our interests, cultures, ideas, and imaginations. This need traces back to our origins and how we perceive our environment. Our personalities and preferences influence the art we choose, reflecting our tastes, interests, and feelings.

Imagination:

Artists provide us with art forms born from their own imaginations, extending these visions across various mediums. We are drawn to art in ways that cannot be articulated. Artists serve as vessels for non-artists to find escapism through their creations.

Art, in all its forms, decorates our lives and communicates our preferences and interests without us uttering a single word. From the colors in paintings to the firmness and scale of sculptures, art contributes to our comfort in our surroundings, often without our conscious awareness. We are constantly seeking art, whether it’s through window-shopping or visiting public spaces.

Our Senses:

Our senses are finely tuned and stimulated by art. The art we bring home keeps our minds engaged and makes our living spaces feel warmer and more personal. Art communicates with us and others around us through sight alone, soothing and delighting us constantly.

To be without art would be like losing a language intrinsic to our existence. It would dampen our imaginations and diminish our capacity for happiness in our own living spaces.
