Many of us wonder how to enhance the sound of our kit guitars. One of the simplest and most effective ways to achieve this is by installing a new pickup system, available from various retailers where guitar kits can be purchased. When selecting your preferred pre-wired pickup assembly, look for high quality in both the wiring and the components used. Installing a new pickup assembly only requires a few basic tools and some soldering. These tools will help you remove the existing pickup system and install the new one in your electric guitar How to Buy a Guitar - The guitar is known for its dynamic and unique sound, making it a popular instrument in various genres of music. Additionally, remove the two screws that hold the output jack plate to the guitar body. To ensure that you don’t lose any screws or small parts from the pre-wired pickup, you should have a container to store items needed for later use. There are three wires that will still be connected from the pickguard to the guitar body. The first is the ground wire, which should be cut as close as possible to the casing using your angled cutters. The other two wires that need to be cut are located beneath the output jack plate, which is why you had to remove the screws earlier. Set the output jack plate aside so you don’t lose it.

Next, remove the plastic hardware from the old pickguard assembly. You may need these for your new guitar kit that you are installing. Proceed to use a wrench to loosen and remove the control nuts from the new pickup assembly. Then, use a screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the pickup selector switch. Be careful to store the nuts and screws in a safe place where you won’t lose them.

Loosen the screws that secure the pickups to the pickguard plate and lift the plate. Repeat this process on the existing pickup assembly in the electric guitar as well. If you don’t need to use your existing pickguard, you can skip this step. Now, you’ll need to rewire the pre-wired pickup to the guitar body. Ensure you place a cloth beneath the guitar to protect its finish from scratches. There are three electrical wires to connect, the same three you cut earlier: the wires to the output jack and the wire from the tremolo bar to the ground casing. Solder the ground wire and attach the wires to the output jack.

Now, all you have to do is replace all the screws and hardware and restring the guitar. Congratulations! You have successfully upgraded your electric guitar kit with a pre-wired pickup.
