is it easy for a girl, to learn playing guitar? I play a little piano, but if you give me a guitar I don't really know what to do. Also, I don't want to ruin my hands with the steel strings

Hi Pami! Just because you're a girl, doesn't mean that you wouldn't be able to play guitar. I know plenty of women who play the guitar, and play it very well. If you're worried about the steel strings ruining your fingers, don't. It can take a while to build up callouses so it doesn't hurt, but it won't ruin your fingers unless you are playing too hard or too long. Start slow, and practice for maybe a half and hour to one hour per day. Start with simple chords and scales, and then progress to putting simple chords together. This website has taught me so much. If you are a self taught musician and guitar player like I am, then this will help you immensely. Just remember, start slow, and have fun!

nylon strings are good to start, but you can't play fast there. Uhm, it's not something you must think about at the moment. Probably you just need to learn a couple of chords, nothing else.

Nylon strings are definitely a good sart although the action (space between the strings and the fretboard) tends to be a little high and the frets are slightly bigger. The feel of the strings will be very nice on your fingers. Oh and if your fingers hurt after, I will accept all responsibility 1 Forum

nylon strings are good. I still have an old nylon guitar and it's relaxing to play there.

I tried to learn acoustic guitar. I don't remember having any particular problem with pain. I have long, skinny fingers with not a lot of meat on them. This was good for reach but bad for making bar chords. Even lowering the action I just never got anywhere. An electric guitar is easier to learn than an acoustic because the strings are lighter. I followed someone's advice to learn the acoustic "because it would make it easier to go to the electric" and in hindsight it was bad advice, because I never made enough progress to keep going. If I had tried the easiest thing first, it may have turned out differently.

Nothing stopping me from trying again, except my prejudice for having failed, a suspicion that I might prefer keyboards, and a lack of time compared to painting, game programming, and money making.

started playing the electric guitar, and after years I still have problems with the acoustic. boh, seems I'm not so good after all.
