My children are 3 & 5. They have expressed interest in playing guitar, but I have not gotten them any yet I do have a keyboard for myself that I am letting them play on every day. However, at the age of 3 & 5, their interest level are not very consistent. I presume this is normal. The biggest thing is: Never push your children to learn an instrument – it will ruin the chance of them ever WANTING to play if they are pushed into it.

I have not pushed my children, they want to learn. I do need to guide them, when they get tired of playing, and start goofing around on the keyboard, I make them stop. Playing the keyboard is a privilege for them, and I do not let them abuse it. I believe that children are ready for an instrument at different ages. And some may never want to learn to play. Not everyone has the passion or talent for music. It would not be the end of the world if they never learned an instrument, would it?
