these last years casual gaming stormed social platforms and changed the way millions of people socialized with friends online. it's a very important event. i spend a lot of my time on social games. maybe this means also wasting my time 1 Forum while i could be more productive, but this is what's happening, first of all on Facebook, but also on other platforms.

Social games are important for developers because them can reach so many people, but a developer becomes "great" only when make AAA game. But wait, is your question address to the developers or to the players?

People have to remember that these social games are free and players have the choice to play what they want to play and ultimately spend what they want to. So for Developers to profit from these games means they have delivered something special. Zynga for example, 30 million monthly users for their Poker game which IMHO is not graphically the best, is nothing short of incredible. I think social gaming has a very big future…..

I disagree.  People may socialize plenty in virtual space, but they are often geographically very far apart.  This makes for 'virtual' socializing that really leaves people pretty stunted for face-to-face socializing, if they only have the online outlet.

I think social gaming, in artistic terms, may have some inherent limits due to its simplicity and accessibility.  Sort of like contemplating the number of highly refined sitcoms that are possible.  There will always be a 'new' one but the formula may not vary much, or amount to an experience that does more than fulfill a predictable branch of human needs.  There are probably only so many ways to drink a beer as well; not that drinking a beer is invalid, but it only is what it is.
