Have you ever wondered why the music you hear on the radio sounds so much better than the music you record yourself? It has a polished sound, and everything seems to blend together seamlessly. This is because all the music you hear on the radio has undergone mastering.

Mastering is a process that a track goes through after it has been recorded, which prepares it and transfers it to a storage medium. The resulting copy, known as “The Master,” serves as the source for all other duplicates. During the mastering process, the original sound recording is equalized, compressed, and edited to reduce sound artifacts such as clicks, dropouts, hum, and hiss. The levels or volume may be adjusted, the track can be edited, fade-ins or fade-outs can be added, and other enhancements can be made. The mastering process is unique to each track, as each recording may have distinct imperfections that require correction. Ambience or additional sounds may also be added during mastering.
