Article by Victor Epand

Bongo drums, usually just called bongos, are one of the most recognizable of percussion instruments. Due to the pervasive popularity of Latin music (thank you, “Dancing With the Stars”), the sounds of these little drums are familiar to people around the world. Bongos, as the name implies, always come in attached sets of two. One drum is slightly bigger than the other; the larger is the “hembra” (the Spanish word for “female), while the smaller is the “macho” (the Spanish word for “male”). Bongo drums are capable of a great deal of versatility and their music is usually upbeat and rapid.

Like some other drums of the Americas, such as the steel drum, bongo drums were originally brought to South America from Africa via the Atlantic slave trade. The African nations of Nigeria and Cameroon had fraternal organizations that utilized a trio of drums called “bonko.” When the Africans were brought to the Americas, vestiges of these organizations and their traditions came with them. The Abakua is a society of Afro-Cuban men that evolved from those fraternal organizations. It continued to use the bonko drums, but the instruments eventually spread beyond the fraternity. It is believed that this was the origin of the bongo in South America. The Abakua still exists in modern Cuba and it still uses bonkos that, if joined together in pairs, very closely resemble bongo drums.

The bodies of bongo drums are usually made of wood, metal or composite materials attached by a thick piece of wood. The head is traditionally of animal skin, but as with other modern drums, synthetic materials are commonly used in modern times. Originally, in the late 19th century, the heads of bongo drums were tacked on and tuned with a heat source. But since the 1940s, metal tuning lugs have been used to allow for easier tuning.

The sound of the bongo drums is high-pitched and as mentioned, the tempo is generally fast. When played, the drums should be held between the player’s knees; the larger drum should be on the side of the player’s dominant hand, which is usually the right one. The drum heads are struck with both the fingers, palms, and sometimes sticks and brushes, although these last are contemporary innovations. The sound of the bongo drum can be muted by placing part of one hand on the drum head while striking with the other hand.

Some of the most famous dance styles of Latin America, including the mambo, salsa and conga, utilize the music of the bongo drum. The instrument’s capacity for distinct percussion is essential to these styles, which showcase distinct and often rapid rhythms. In fact, the music of the bongos is often used as a solo instrument in such music, a tactic that highlights the importance of a song’s rhythm.

On a side note, although bongo drums are generally considered instruments of Latin America, drums resembling bongos can be found in Morocco, Egypt and some Middle Eastern countries. These drums have rawhide heads like their American counterparts, but the bodies are of a ceramic nature. Such drums can also be heard in some traditional Spanish music, such as flamenco, probably due to the Moorish influence in that country.

Article by Craig Chambers – Mission Del Rey

When it comes to Native American drums, and especially the famous hoop drums, there are many different types and styles available. Different Native Americans made different types of drums and for different purposes. Most often the drums were used in ceremonies and rituals or celebrations of some type. Rawhide drums were very common in most Native American cultures and used in many different types of hand drums. Each of these types of Native American drums is beautiful in its own way and serves an important purpose within the families and tribes, but in general it is the hoop drum that is common to all. The wonder and beauty of Native American hoop drums is not only reserved for Native Americans today, as they are sharing their work with other people of the world. Some of the most famous hoop drums are Tarahumara Indian drums. Their drum festivals draw people from around the world.

What are Hoop Drums? Native American hoop drums are sometimes called frame drums and throughout Native American history have been a traditional style hand drum. They are often used in ceremonies and celebrations as well as for meditation or medicine with most Native Americans. In modern society, they are used to teach people about the American Indian culture and often even used as decoration. In some cases, the drums are even used for art projects because the rawhide makes a great canvas for painting and decoration. In the history of Native Americans, drums just like the hoop drum were used for many different things. They were an essential part of the Native American culture and way of life and still remain so today. There are many spiritual, emotional and health-related benefits to drumming and hoop drums are a great way to achieve this.

How are Hoop Drums Made? Native American drums are all exquisitely hand made by the tribes that create them, each drum is unique. Tarahumara hoop drums are made by bending a piece of yellow pine into a hoop and rawhide is stretched and laced for heads. A handle is made from rawhide lacing and the drum is played by holding it vertically and tapping or “drumming” the sides. Hoop drums come in many different sizes but the standards are usually from 7″ to 28″ with 16″ to 24″ being the most popular among Native American hand drums.

The Heritage of Hoop Drums. Music is a very important part of the Native American culture. Drums were often used as well as flutes. Mothers would use flute music to soothe their babies and drums were used in many different ways for entertainment, spiritual growth and ceremonies as well as to increase and maintain health. Hoop drums are a fantastic piece of Native American history that people of all ages can enjoy.

Article by Chris Cornell

An MBA Technology refers to the program that teaches students ways to manage information technology systems and business infrastructure. Students will also learn how they can discuss technological problems and innovations with colleagues who are not information technology savvy so that they can get their messages across. If you take MBA Technology online, it will take 2 years to complete the program. For those who want to get the degree faster, it is possible, only that the program would be much more extensive than a non-accelerated program.

In MBA Technology online, the program will include courses like Information Systems for Managers, Operations Management, Global Business Decision Making, and Marketing Analysis, apart from subjects on team communication, business calculus, and information technology. The classes will generally focus on technical courses and business classes. In the meantime, the program will encourage students to take up internships.

The program will open many information technology jobs for you. The fields graduates can look into are online security systems, information technology, technology management, or even technical support. Example of popular positions graduates opt for are Information Technology Manager, Information Technology Director, Senior Business Analyst, Information Technology Consultant, and Project Manager Software Development.

The job prospects are aplenty and are needed all over the world. With an MBA Technology online, a graduate can earn up to $ 75,000 to $ 95,000 annually. The salary is influenced by different factors, such as the MBA program in which you graduated from, relevant work experience, organization size, and the location of job. According to the US Bureau of Labour, it is expected that in 10 years time, the employment in information technology, database administration, computer support, and network systems to grow by 12%. The growth in this career is expected to boom in countries that are quickly expanding their information systems, like India and China.

Symbolic forms like aural sounds, oral expressions, signs and languages are communicative sources that help social scientists understand social phenomena and enable them to postulate the concepts and methodologies of social sciences. Communication of this kind is the organic basis of disciplines of social anthropology and sociology even as a theory of the society in which communication is spatially situated is essential to evolve an adequate theory of communication. This volume explores the interface between communication, sociology and anthropology, examining the advances made in these disciplines by referring to advancements made in Western social sciences. It presents an overview of the theoretical and cultural dimensions of the forms and processes of communication in India. In this context, it covers traditional forms of communication and their interface with theory by referring to folk culture and the construction of the notion of community in communication researches. The comprehensive volume with articles by experts highlights the forms of communication and its effects on institutions related to the social and cultural domains such as language and identity and national political mobilisation. It examines the interface of the communication processes with culture and its implications for social change by delving into aspects of popular culture and the challenges of globalisation. The scholarly essays deal with sociological and anthropological issues of contemporary significance including tribal social structure and formation, debates on the concepts of tribe and caste, the sociology of professions and entrepreneurship as emergent facets of sub-structures and sub-cultures in India in the process of social change, and the changing interface between religion and culture. The essays also cover Dalit consciousness and sociology of gender.
sorry i don’t have more. Ronald Wilson Reagan; February 6, 1911 — June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989), the 33rd Governor of California (1967–1975) and, prior to that, a radio, film and television actor.Reagan was born in Tampico in Whiteside County, Illinois, reared in Dixon in Lee County, Illinois, and educated at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and sociology. Upon his graduation, Reagan first moved to Iowa to work as a radio broadcaster and then in 1937 to Los Angeles, California. He began a career as an actor, first in films and later television, appearing in over 50 movie productions and earning enough success to become a famous, publicly recognized figure. Some of his most notable roles are in Knute Rockne, All American and Kings Row. Reagan served as president of the Screen Actors Guild, and later spokesman for General Electric; his start in politics occurred during his work for GE. Originally a member of the Democratic Party, he began to support Republican Party candidates in the early 1950s and eventually switched to the Republican Party in 1962. After delivering a rousing speech in support of Barry Goldwater’s presidential candidacy in 1964, he was persuaded to seek the California governorship, winning two years later and again in 1970. He was defeated in his run for the Republican presidential nomination in 1968 as well as 1976, but won both the nomination and election …

Article by takethetimes

Art may be distinct in terms of cultural and tradition, but it still finds emotional connection between people from different backgrounds. Like any other art form, Chinese art has own individual feel to it. Chinese art is divided into different time periods according to the ruling dynasties at that time. Various Chinese philosophers and great thinkers, teachers, religious figures and even people involved in politics have influenced the different creations of Chinese art. Chinese art mainly covers folk art, fine art and performance art. Under folk art, paper cutting, puppetry and handicrafts were dominant. Under performing art Chinese opera, theatre, Shuochang narrative and dances were popular.

The New Culture Movement greatly influenced new forms of art in China which in turn learnt to adopt western techniques as well as the concept of socialist realism. In the twentieth century, the Cultural Revolution helped shape Chinese art further through the Four Olds destruction campaign. Even today, artists in China produce a large variety of experimental works, multimedia installations and performances that have found grounds of fame even in the international spheres of art.

Art in itself is something universal and thus its connectivity between one country and another country is not surprising. Today, in China, artists like Li Lihong are famous for their break through designs and porcelain work. He is a practicing artist who is known for his exquisite and very innovative designs. He has won many awards for his art work and is know worldwide. Huang Yan is another very well known artist from China. He is a painter, sculptor, photographer and also a performance artist based in Beijing. His art work is steeped in tradition and is merged with contemporary art methods and style. He is known for the combination of beautiful Chinese art that is incorporated in body art or body painting. Feng Zhengjie is also another very famous Chinese contemporary artist. He is famous because of his oil portraits which he does in a red or turquoise palette of Chinese fashion models with faces that are vacant and have diverging eyes.

Thus what we understand is that the artists in China have always been very conscious about their heritage and cultural influences. Contemporary art in China may be different but there are clear traces of traditional influences on the works of the respective artists. The art market of the world deeply recognizes Chinese art as a very unique marker in the history of art itself. Chinese art, be it ancient or contemporary, cannot be put aside. They go head to head even with great European art works and with every passing day, Chinese art works are being more appreciated because of their beauty and individuality, rendering them indispensable in the world of art. Every artist, no matter where he or she is from, recognizes any piece of Chinese art work very well. They are appreciated by critics and lay men alike and provide a sense of great aesthetic value in every Chinese, whether modern or old school.

Article by Trishna

Psychology is the science that investigates mental states directly. It uses generally empirical methods to investigate concrete mental states like joy, fear or obsessions. Psychology investigates the laws that bind these mental states to each other or with inputs and outputs to the human organism.

An example of this is the psychology of perception. Scientists working in this field have discovered general principles of the perception of forms. A law of the psychology of forms says that objects that move in the same direction are perceived as related to each other. This law describes a relation between visual input and mental perceptual states. However, it does not suggest anything about the nature of perceptual states. The laws discovered by psychology are compatible with all the answers to the mind-body problem already described.

Most of the discussion in this article has focused on one style or tradition of philosophy in modern Western culture, usually called analytic philosophy (sometimes described as Anglo-American philosophy). Many other schools of thought exist, however, which are sometimes subsumed under the broad label of continental philosophy. In any case, though topics and methods here are numerous, in relation to the philosophy of mind the various schools that fall under this label (phenomenology, existentialism, etc.) can globally be seen to differ from the analytic school in that they focus less on language and logical analysis alone but also take in other forms of understanding human existence and experience. With reference specifically to the discussion of the mind, this tends to translate into attempts to grasp the concepts of thought and perceptual experience in some sense that does not merely involve the analysis of linguistic forms.

In Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel’s Phenomenology of Mind, Hegel discusses three distinct types of mind: the ‘subjective mind’, the mind of an individual; the ‘objective mind’, the mind of society and of the State; and the ‘Absolute mind’, a unity of all concepts. See also Hegel’s Philosophy of Mind from his Encyclopedia.

In modern times, the two main schools that have developed in response or opposition to this Hegelian tradition are phenomenology and existentialism. Phenomenology, founded by Edmund Husserl, focuses on the contents of the human mind (see noema) and how phenomenological processes shape our experiences. Existentialism, a school of thought founded upon the work of S

Hindi music in most ways showcases Indian culture to people around the world. Music is an integral part of a hindi movie. Since the headquarters for hindi film industry is Bombay, currently known as Mumbai, over the years its been called as bollywood. Its imperative for bollywood movies to have quality movies otherwise the chances are that it is not going to be a big hit even though the movie itself is very good, such is the expectation from the audiences in India. Invariably if a hindi movie is a super hit more often than not it would have the best hindi music.

In Indian cinema music depicts various emotions so the transformation from one kind of emotions to another is done through music. Since cinema started in India, more than half a century ago, music has been an intimate part of it. In fact there were about a bare minimum of 10-15 songs in a movie when cinema started in India. Movies were actually more in the form musical drama those days. However now times have changed there are only about 5 to 6 songs in a movie now. Hindi music seems to be evolving every decade with different patterns and styles. Initially the music was more classical with traditional Indian style of music. Over the years with the influence of western music Hindi music now is product which has a nice blend of Indian classical music and western music.

Although there are a lot of Hindi bands these days Hindi music unlike the west is generally Hindi film music. In the western countries music industry and film industry are two different entities. Film music in Hollywood is only background score most of the times and there hardly any outright songs. But in India the music industry is a subset of film industry. Even the bands which produce musical albums invariable compose or sing in the movies. So you can safely say that the best hindi music has been from the bollywood. If not for the Indian film industry Hindi music would have poorer.

Although classical hindi music is rich in culture and heritage, it was generally the upper class which was I more inclined than everyone. It was hindi movies which packaged the music in such way that it reaches to each and every class of the society. They took hindi music to a new level which was followed by almost everyone in the country. Music in Indian cinema has touched almost each and very style of music in the world. Out of these 7 decades or so in hindi music it is widely believed that the best hindi music came in the era of 70′s. In 70′s with music composers like RD Burman, Bappi Lahiri etc really took hindi film music to another level. Even today even with the influence of very fast numbers and beats there are lot of people who would still prefer listening to the songs of 70′s. This clearly speaks volumes for the music during that period.

Most corporate culture surveys are not as effective as they could be. This article will help you to optimize your success and use the results to improve your corporate culture.

Start with Your Goals

When embarking upon a corporate culture survey project, you must start with the end in mind. What is your purpose in doing a corporate culture survey? Do you want to improve the corporate culture? If so, why? What are the main challenges that your company is facing? Do you have a good understanding of what corporate culture is? If not, I encourage you to read Understanding Corporate Culture.

I recommend that you narrow down your goals to three major goals that you would like to accomplish. Examples would include: 1) reduce employee turnover; 2) improve product delivery time; and 3) increase profitability. It is best to set quantitative goals. Even though you cannot quantify your corporate culture, it is the container for all of your results and has a direct and indirect impact on these results. By setting quantitative goals, you will be able to measure the results of your efforts by doing annual or bi-annual corporate culture surveys.

Be prepared to change your goals. While goal-setting up-front is extremely important, you may learn some things about your company and culture that lead you to re-prioritize your goals. This is fine. Be open and flexible. Try not to forecast the outcome of the survey before you get the results.

Designing a Good Corporate Culture Survey

Once you know what you are trying to accomplish in doing a survey, you can design questions around your goals. But, be careful! Quantum physics has demonstrated that the intentions of a scientist affect the outcome of her experiment. That is why I recommend that you use a survey that has been designed by an outside party. Her or she will not share your biases and the results will be less biased.

Below are the sections that we have included in the Culture Builders Corporate Culture Survey:
1. Company Mission
2. Leadership
3. Corporate Culture
4. Company Values
5. The Work Itself
6. Work Assignments
7. Work Fulfillment
8. Individual Career Development
9. Support, Training, and Coaching
10. Summary Questions

You see that the Culture Builders’ survey covers a broad range of areas. Corporate Culture is only one section. The reason for this is that culture is the container for actions, decisions, and results. You will be able to learn about your culture indirectly by querying the other areas.

Sections 1-9 are quantitative questions and section 10 has open-ended qualitative questions. The quantitative questions can be tracked by time period, which is important. You will be able to recognize trends and be proactive in avoiding a crisis. The qualitative questions will give you lots of insights and useful anecdotes.

In designing the survey, it is essential to obtain personal information from the survey participants that will help you to segment the data. For example, tenure and department are essential pieces of information. Position level may also be useful.

That said, it is critical to keep the survey confidential. People will be more willing to complete the survey and provide honest answers if they are confident that their answers cannot be traced back to them. Use design and technology to keep the answers confidential.

Implementing the Corporate Culture Survey

Make it as easy as possible for people to complete the survey. Use the technology that makes best sense for your company. I have helped companies set up surveys on their intranets and on Lotus Notes.

Set it up so that someone can begin the survey and the partial answers will be saved if they get interrupted. Make a tight timeframe for people to do the survey – one week or two weeks if people travel frequently. Send out 48 and 24 hour notices of the surveys deadline.

Getting Good Response to your Corporate Culture Survey

It is important to have the buy-in and support of the leadership team in doing this survey. Spend the time necessary to educate them about corporate culture and your goals for conducting a survey. The leadership team will then advocate for the survey and increase the response rate.

How you present the survey to potential participants is critical to the success of your project. Remember: the survey is confidential so participation is optional. If you only get 70% of people responding to the survey, you will not be able to find out who has not participated.

One of the best ways to ensure 100% participation is to clearly articulate the goals of the survey and share your plan for what you will do with the results. If I believe that you will do good things with the survey results and it will directly improve my life, I am more apt to take the time to do the survey.

What to Do with the Results of your Corporate Culture Survey

The worst thing you can do is to undertake a survey and then do nothing with the results. This is far worse than doing nothing at all. You will raise people’s expectations of life at the company improving and then the results disappear into a black hole. I guarantee that morale will deteriorate.

Set up a company-wide meeting to present and discuss results. Do this within a few weeks of the close of the survey. Use the momentum that you have built up to keep moving towards your goals.

Be as transparent as possible in presenting the results. Don’t skew or sugar-coat them. I helped a company do a survey and the internal person who presented the results focused only on the positive and glossed over the negative. People didn’t buy it. Be as objective as possible. Try to get someone who is respected and well-liked within the company to present the results. This is far better than having an outside consultant do this. Then the whole company will own the results – not an impassionate outside observer.

I recommend setting up three task forces to own the three goals that you have set forth. Try to get volunteers to sit on the task forces. Make the teams a hybrid of different departments and different levels. Set concrete goals and timelines. Make sure that the task forces have the support and resources they need.

What Next

I recommend doing an annual or bi-annual survey to keep your finger on the pulse of the company. Make minor changes to the survey or add questions, but don’t change anything significantly or you won’t be able to track your results and identify trends.

The NCsoft is one of the few companies developing videogames that boasts to have the fullest its purpose, having focus and insisting on only one type of games, MMORPG. Even if the MMO is not your forte (yes, there are such in which I am one), you can appreciate titles like Lineage, Guild Wars, and of course the recent Aion. Certainly not stop NCsoft, as is already in the works in Guild Wars 2, which pictures and videos showing promising.

Those watching the byteme, you know how big a piece of content is dedicated to things related to art from around the purely entertaining profile of videogames. Image and music are two very important components that often make a game stand out in particular in some species have a central role.

I refer, of course, those games deal with fantasy worlds that have traditionally attracted the public attention given to the atmosphere and image. As a good “mother”, NCsoft always tends to satisfy the most demanding gamers and to whom we must admit that the artistic work and aesthetic in games of high quality.

For lovers of fantasy, therefore, NCsoft has a new album entitled The Art of Guild Wars 2, at 128 pages of which are concentrated – I suspect – the best illustrations of the Guild Wars 2. The album is essentially a painting trip in all regions of the world’s game, depicting landscapes and creatures, such inspired artists ArenaNet before “translate” from paper to 3D models.

The displayed works are hundreds and admittedly impressive. Even if you deal with NCsoft games or RPG in general but nevertheless you love illustrations fantasy, it is essential to get it!

The issue is luxurious, glossy paper and hardcover, with pictures accompanied by short descriptive comments. Currently the album The Art of Guild Wars 2 is available for purchase Guild wars 2 gold from the European.
