1 comment so far - Check Manuel Career's News! --> Manuel Marino Official <--Jazz piano is one of the most vibrant, energetic, specialized types of music. Famous jazz artists you may want to listen to are Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarret, Bill Evans, to name but a few. To learn jazz piano you need to take some time to listen to jazz CD’s and maybe watch DVD’s as well. To learn jazz piano, one needs to be very patient and dedicated to practicing the genre.
Jazz piano is characterized by a lot of improvisation. A jazz musician can be given a fake music sheet or chord chart and he can improvise on the spot over those chord progressions. It is recommended that a jazz musician know or have standard songs in their repertoire. Standard songs include songs like “Willow Weep for Me,” “Summertime,” and “Georgia on My Mind” to name but a few. Standard songs are songs that have been covered by many recording artists in the past, usually every year.

There’s such a huge variety of guitar improvisation techniques available. One such guitar improvisation technique is called hybrid picking.. Hybrid picking can add an absolutely new dimension to the sound that is rendered by your lead guitar. This is a type of guitar improvisation method that is most commonly used by guitarists in music genres or styles like blues, rock, country, bluegrass, and even jazz. Among guitar legends who has used hybrid picking very effectively is Stevie Ray Vaughan. He used it for rendering a solo in Lenny

The History of Jazz

Photo by hcplebranchJazz is a bit of a weird thing to define. Even the origins of the word are murky. It seems to have stemmed from baseball magazines in the early twentieth century, when it had nothing to do with music. Anyway, what we tend to know it as today is either a slightly alienating collection of weird sounds, or that irritatingly smooth and smug crooning that mafia sponsored legends made so popular in the fifties. But that’s not a fair depiction of jazz at all.
The origins of it come from black American culture. When people were at their most oppressed, working as slaves in colonial plantations and farms, they sang during their labour, and sang in praise of god in their free time. Gospel was a powerful force of collecting peoples’ spirits. From this came blues, and its rich, heartbreaking tones of dissatisfaction, coupled with new, cool-sounding scales and repetitive riffs.
In the early nineteenth century black composer Scott Joplin brought a new sound to New Orleans. He wrote a collection of popular street music that swept across America with its happy tunes and echoing lyrics that encouraged audience participation. It was perfect for an America that wanted to dance, and enjoy the more illicit side of life in brothels and bars while feeling part of something innocent and fun. This type of ‘jazz’ music spread, until by the thirties it was the mainstay of dance halls in the big cities of the north. This meant it was a big part of illegal drinking houses too, as these were the prohibition years.
Jazz Guitar Players Come Full Circle

Photo by The Queen’s HallIn the early part of the twentieth century jazz guitar players very often used the old-time banjo. This is not the instrument necessarily thought of today in the idiom. The banjo then, as it is now, was generally used for country, bluegrass and folk music, the antithesis of cool.
Gibson come out with the first hollow-body acoustic guitar that could finally replace the banjo in 1923. A musician could now play a more complex set of chords and provide an interesting rhythm. By the 1930s the banjo was back in the country fold and the guitar was on its way to gaining a solid place in the swing orchestra. It was on the road to coolness.
By the late 1930s, the electric guitar made its debut and things were never the same. Finally there was a stringed instrument that could be heard amongst the dissonance that make up an orchestra. Whether it be swing, bebop, smooth, fusion or hard-bop, it now had an undeniable presence.
Fretless Guitar – The Advantages And Downsides Of Playing This Sort Of Guitar

Photo by Ethan PraterA Guitar Playing is actually a guitar without having any frets. It plays in precisely the same manner as many other stringed musical instruments as well as common guitars, yet does not have any kind of frets to function as the lower end point (node) on the vibrating string.
Over a fretless guitar, the vibrating guitar strings comes through the bridge, from where the strings are secured, all the way to the spot where the fingertips presses the string on the finger board.
These guitars are usually uncommon in many western songs and typically limited to the electrified instruments due to minimized volume level.
