You’re working on your big novel, but something doesn’t really feel right about it. You need opinions from actual readers, presumably ones that you aren’t related to. How can you put your finger on the pulse of real readers?

Writer’s groups may be able to help you. Every member is in the same position you are and understands the value of detailed feedback in improving as a writer.

But these people aren’t really readers. They may read more books than average, they may love books, but they probably don’t reflect the average opinion of a mainstream reader. How many writer’s groups would have loved Twilight or the DaVinci Code? Groups with a literary focus might not be the best fit if you want to achieve commercial success.

This is the third in a series of articles on the mistakes that beginning screenwriters make, even if they are skilled novelists. If you haven’t read the other two articles, this one can stand alone. Here are some more screenwriting mistakes for you to avoid.

TOO MUCH INFO TOO SOON – One common error is beginning the screenplay with a lot of background information. While this may work in a novel, it is deadly and boring in a screenplay. Give us just enough information to get us interested and to be able to understand what is going on. Then reveal more information as the story progresses, and as we need to know it. Skilled screenwriters can often find ways to tease the reader into wanting to know more, which keeps them turning the pages.

LONG SCENES – Scenes in modern films need to be short, usually two to four pages, though the key scenes can and sometimes need to be longer. The trend towards shorter scenes is due in part to the influence of music videos with their quick-cut images and shorter time-frames.

The Discipline of Short Story Writing

1 comment so far - Check Manuel Career's News! --> Manuel Marino Official <--

The short story was first identified to be a different type of literary work in 1842, once Poe’s critique of Hawthorne called attention towards the new kind of fiction. Short story writing had, nonetheless, already been practiced for many, many years previous to that: possibly the epic stories of Homer as well as the tales of the very first books in the Bible may be considered to be the very first samples; surely the short story is directly connected in its initial development with narrative poems, allegorical stories, as well as unwritten traditions, and it can be traced to the romances of the thirteenth century. Later writers aided in its emergence.

Even so the short story as we understand it right now is an invention of the nineteenth century;and it also owes its position in modern literature, if not its very existence, to American writers. They first recognized its possibilities and employed it earnestly; and the art and genius that they used in their narratives assured the short story a perpetual place in literature. These authors differed in content and preferences, but they acknowledged the same standards and limits; and the rules that they started back then still hold true in the present day.

The modern-day short story is essentially an American product; and our practitioners of its craft have put in place precedents for writers in the old world.

5 Tips for Fiction Writing

Fiction writing. Is there anything more fulfilling and frustrating than writing a fiction novel? It can be a drawn out and long process, but these 5 tips on fiction writing can make it a little less painful.

1. Get Ideas-Creative ideas may come from anywhere. Do not caught up in the belief that your ideas must shape a entire novel right away. It can be a conversation you want your characters to have or just a spot you want your main character to visit. One way of producing some new ideas is to make use of a group of five to ten random phrases and then producing a passage utilizing all of those words. You may be amazed where it leads you!

2. Outline-This is a method that I’m going back to with my present project. There are some definite positive aspects to outlining your fiction story. Most apparent, you know what comes next every stage of the way. By developing an outline, you can fix plot problems before you even get to the penning stage. Another great thing about outlining your novel is that this isn’t high school. You can outline your project in the proper way of headings and sub headings, you could just make a simple checklist, you can use index cards (one for each scene), or even post-its. Regardless of how you do it, get it all layed out so that you have a precise plan to follow.

So you’ve got a vague idea for a novel in your head, and you think you can get it out on paper? Well, you probably can and what’s more, you can likely do it much faster than you realize. All you need is a solid plan, a couple of uninterrupted hours a day, as much coffee as you can drink, and your good. How do you do this? Keep reading.

Step number one is to create all your characters. Make them as real to you as you possibly can. Describe them in much more detail than you ever would in your manuscript. Talk to them when nobody else is around. Imagine them in your favorite TV shows and see how they’d react. Make sure they plenty of realistic strong points and weak points. Give yourself two weeks for this step.

Next is to create the basic outline of your plot. It should contain each individual scene, written down in one or two sentences describing what happens. Some people use business size cards and arrange everything out on a big table, while others use some of the software programs out there that was developed for this particular step. This step should take about two weeks.

How You Can Get Your Book Published

No comments yet - Check Manuel Career's News! --> Manuel Marino Official <--

Writing a novel is something that plenty of people want to do, fewer people actually start doing, and very few finish. If you’ve finished a novel, then you are in a very small group of people. However, you aren’t out of the woods yet. Now that you’ve finished, you’ve got to find an agent, who can then find a suitable publisher for you. Unfortunately, this can take just as long as writing the novel itself. So how do you go about doing this? Keep reading, as you’re about to find out.

One of the things that you’ll come up against is that plenty of other people are in your shoes. And while there are plenty of agents out there, most of them will be looking for somebody who has already been published, and who already has a group of loyal readers to sell their next book to. While this can seem difficult to overcome, there are plenty of ways.

Before you start shopping your book around, you’ll need to create a powerfully compelling description in about two paragraphs of your entire novel. Agents are inundated with proposals all day long, and you’ve got to make yours sound better than all the rest. The agent is looking for something that they can quickly get a book deal with, so try to make it as easy on them as possible. That means make your book sound like something plenty of people will want to buy.

writing A software that helps you to be a novelistErick Behymer wrote for us The Djinn Chronicles. Now he is back with the review of MyNovel. MyNovel is a novel writing software. It contains a complete word processor and will get you to think about and plan your characters, settings, and the events that will form the skeleton of your novel. But let’s read Erick review about this unique software.

A software that helps you to be a novelist

Rarely when testing software (mostly security related stuff), am I impressed by anything. I will spend hours picking apart a program, attempting to find any flaw or blemish, major or minor. When I was first approached to test MyNovel, I donned my glasses of pessimism expecting the worst. This is not meant as a detractment, it’s just something I do.
