The growing popularity of ukuleles is one of the great musical success stories of the last decade. But where did they come from? And why have sales suddenly shot up the last few years? Let us explore the history and reasons behind the ukulele’s success.

An adaptation of traditional Portuguese instruments, the ukulele was first made in Hawaii in the 1880s by Manuel Nunes, Jose do Espirito Santo, and Augusto Dias. The name ukulele roughly translates as “the gift that came here, ” according to Hawaiian Queen Lili’uokalani. Their fame spread after the Panama Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915. The sound was taken up by song writers of the day and spread across the world.

Later, after World War II, the instrument became a toy. Cheap, mass produced ukuleles were fashionable amongst kids for a time. And thanks to entertainers such as George Formby and Tiny Tim, they became a joke.

There are many successful recording artists who can’t read music never mind distinguish a symphony from a sonata. This implies that you don’t need to have any knowledge of music theory in order to be a successful musician.

Aside from being the most populated city in the United States, Atlanta is the third largest city in the U.S. and is known as the top business city and transportation hub of the country (it has the busiest airport too).

With regard to tourism, Georgia’s capital city also offers a great deal to boast about. In reality, most of the Atlanta attractions are even recognized across the world. It is where the worldwide head office of Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, and AT&T can be found. Apart from that, there are tour selections for the Atlanta Zoo, inside CNN Studio, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, The Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Atlanta History Center and the High Museum of Art.

One very famous destination among Atlanta attractions is The High Museum of Art. So what’s with this tourist destination that really draws in a huge crowd daily?

Music Arts, Orchestra Music, Music Compositions… being Artists, Fine Arts, Poetry…

In few words: Music, Arts, People and Ideas.

What links all these words together? It’s not difficult. But first let’s begin studying the term “artist”. It means “One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value”, but also “A person whose work shows exceptional creative ability or skill”.

If we agree that whenever we have exceptional ideas and we are able to create from them a work of aesthetic value we can be considered “artists” then you know what links all those words together: creativity, the ability or power to create.
