Freeburn crafts a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat with “Lost Then Found.” Jonas Knight is a skip tracer – a person who is an expert at helping to hide others – so is his ex-wife, Renee, who he still harbors feelings for. When his partner, Peter, asks him to help find someone, Jonas reluctantly agrees knowing the case will pit him against Renee.

Gina Howard has a reason to get lost – she’s a minor and her uncle, Eric, is trying to cheat her out of her inheritance. Eric is a dangerous man and Renee has hidden Gina well. Eric has two weeks to find Gina before she turns of age, and he puts pressure on Peter to find her. Peter involves Jonas.

Jonas still has deep feelings for Renee, yet he knows she’s determined to protect Gina no matter the cost. Renee hasn’t forgiven Jonas for his involvement in her sister’s Melody’s murder, and while Jonas didn’t commit the crime, Renee’s resentment runs deep.

As soon as Jonas starts poking around Renee’s business, trouble follows them. They’re attacked, shot at, and run off the road. The deeper Jonas becomes involved, the more aggressive the hunter is.

Jonas realizes the right thing to do is to ensure Gina’s well-being and keep Renee safe despite the attraction that flares up between them. Can he unlock the secrets that threaten his world before his pursuer catches him?

Freeburn’s penned a taunt romantic suspense that will have the reader turning the pages to find out what will happen next. Her writing is sharp and crisp, engaging the reader with ease.

The characters are complex and interesting. Jonas truly is a “knight” in shining amour, coming to Renee’s rescue over and over again. However, he hides his inner pain behind a stoic mask, rarely letting anyone see his heart.

Most business and self improvement books share a common thread, they are about as exciting to read as a root canal. They drone on and on about concepts, but very rarely put those concepts into a scene where the reader can understand their purpose.

Gregg Fraley has turned this situation on its head with Jack’s Notebook. Why not write a novel and embed the business aspect inside it? The novel provides the glue that joins the theories together. While simplistic and outrageous in the plot line, it it perfect to demonstrate the concept of Creative Problem Solving.

This six step process can be used for almost any situation, regardless of if it is business or personal. Some people come across an obstacle and spend their time proverbially ‘banging their head against the wall.’ This is a very inefficient method whose only consequence is a huge headache. It is often better to step back, and step around the problem.

While that is a huge oversimplification of the concepts discussed in Jack’s Notebook, it does get to the gist. People get too wrapped up in the ‘here and now,’ it is better to view the situation or problem from as many angles as you can.

Gregg Fraley uses theme oriented lists. Again, I will oversimplify, who are your friends, who are your enemies, who can help, and who can hinder?

I enjoyed this book a lot, the story line concerns a young man Jack who feels trapped within a boring and monotonous life, no money, no prospects, and no plans. When he is offered a ride home on a cold and rainy night his life changes. The guardian angel is Manny, a middle aged Hispanic who exudes confidence. Manny is a successful man, and Manny is prepared to help Jack.

Manny loves the written word, particularly lists.

Now, I have to admit that I have a big aversion to lists, no doubt this is as a result of my wife. She produces the biggest grocery shopping lists you have ever seen! However, we do get what we need, and we save a considerable amount of money as a result, we buy what we need, not what we just want.

Fraley introduces us gently into the list concept, “list what you wish for,” pick an item and make a list of how you can get there, make a list of who can assist you, make a list of what you need to learn, make a list of the downsides, detractors and obstacles, etc.

The bottom line is that by creating functional lists you can hone in on the subject. You can define, refine, and re-align your focus. I really liked the idea of carrying a small notebook with you at all times, and when you have an idea, write it down. I have a gazzillion ideas, and by the time I hit the keyboard, I have forgotten them all. A good example is this book review, I had a great line to use while I was sitting on the bus, but by the time I had got home, fixed my wife’s computer problem, ate dinner, it was gone.

Try Jack’s Notebook, it is a fun read for the story alone, and who knows, you might even get an idea or three!

Iris refuses and Devon castes a frightening powerful spell on the new family. Not even Elijah can protect them from horrible nightmares and the evil presence of the curse. Iris tries every trick she knows to counter Devon while Andrew contemplates a return to his old ways of running from it all.

Jerome Peterson has crafted an extremely entertaining novel. The characters are well developed, especially the hero/drifter Andrew, and the strong, mysterious yet vulnerable Iris. The quirky and intelligent Lily adds a humorous touch without the precociousness so often seen in young fictitious characters. The Haunting of Andrew Sharpai cast a spell on me-I couldn’t stop reading until I knew how it turned out. Suspense, a fast pace, plot twists, romance, wacky animals, and family bonds make this one of the best books I’ve read in 2010. If you enjoy a great paranormal thriller, The Haunting of Andrew Sharpai is a must read!

Life is full of ups and down, and transitional opportunities or doors that we either go through, or forever wonder what life “would have been if,” and to further illustrate such mixed emotions, often deep thinkers turn to poetry, as a way to cope with the uncertainty. If this comment I’ve just made resonates with you, then perhaps you might like to read some most excellent poetry on such topics.

If so, then let me recommend one of the best poetry books on “life’s transitional periods,” and after you start reading it you will not be able to put it down, and luckily you won’t have too, it’s less than 100-pages. The book is called;

“1970 Poems; Transition,” by Leonard Harlig, self-published and printed at Anderson Graphics in Van Nuys, CA in 1970, (93 pages).

In 1970 the famous modern poet Leonard Harlig printed his transitional poetry books of 1970.

Each book is numbered and only 300 were printed, this is indeed a collector’s item. You may see this book pop up on eBay once in a while and if you do, I suggest you buy it and read it, savoring every word.

There are poems about the transition from military and war back into society, from teenager to adulthood, from single to marriage, relocation of a family, changing of jobs, health transitions during later stages of life, etc. Each poem hitting home, with so much truth and honesty in each word, with just a touch of cynicism to go along with the reality at hand; the irony of what is, what is purported, and what transpires. Anyway, you’ll just love it, so please consider all this.

Williams pens an inspirational romance filled with love and faith in “No Other.” Set in Texas, in 1949, just after World War II, twenty-year-old Jakob Wilheimer is putting his life together, but the effort tests his faith in ways he never imagined.

During World War II, Jakob’s parents and young siblings were placed in an internment camp for being German. Jakob was very bitter about that. His parents were released, but Jakob’s anger still simmers below the surface. Joe, his older brother, returns to help run the family business and Jakob goes back to school.

Meri Parker is a young, twenty-two-year-old woman who is Jakob’s English teach. She’s also writing a play for the drama department to perform. Jakob agrees to help make the scenery. Meri and Jakob grow close, harboring an attraction they keep a secret.

While Jakob comes from a large, warm family, Meri’s family is cold and calculating. They insist on keeping up appearances. Meri craves a real, true, honest love and not the materialistic affection her parents give her. Jakob showers her in a cocoon of warm emotions and the couple makes love.

Things get complicated when Meri discovers she’s pregnant. In order to find happiness with Jakob, Meri has to find the strength to confront her parents and stand up for her beliefs. Can Jakob’s faith give Meri the strength she needs to choose a different path for her life?

Williams’s writing flows effortlessly, engaging the reader right away. She’s done her research and it shows, capturing an authentic feel of the time period right down to Jakob’s accent. Williams also uses a good economy of words to paint her descriptions without weighing the reader down. The pacing rises and falls in just the right places, allowing the reader to catch their breaths before picking up again.

Both Meri and Jakob are complex characters filled with flaws, yet imbued with hope. Jakob is a good man with a kind heart, but he lets negative emotions fester within him and that spurs him to do things without thinking them through sometimes. Jakob needs to work on his patience.

Meri hungers to find a real, true substantial relationship, one not filled with fake smiles and false affection. Jakob makes her feel alive, but in order for her to find what she’s looking for, she’s got to find the strength to stand up for what she believes in.

“No Other” is sweet for romance readers. Meri and Jakob share several kisses and tender caresses. “No Other” is a book that offers hope in the face of adversity.

Grey crafts an intriguing Victorian romance with “An Earl to Enchant.” This is book three in her Rogues’ Dynasty series. Lucas Morgandale, (Morgan) knows his mind when it comes to women, but when he meets Miss Arianna Sweet, she throws his whole equilibrium into chaos. <p.

The novel opens with Morgan waiting for a female companion. It’s late at night, rainy, and he’s had a good amount to drink. Around midnight there’s a knock on the door, but it isn’t who he was expecting. Arianna Sweet has just arrived from India and has gone to Valleydale in search of Morgan’s grandmother, Lady Elder. Arianna is sick, and Morgan insists she stay for the night.

Morgan later explains to Arianna his grandmother has passed away, but he’s willing to help her. He insists she stay at Valleydale until she is fully recovered. Arianna softens towards her host.

Soon Arianna and Morgan grow close. Arianna calms Morgan’s horse, Master Brute. Morgan shows Arianna the cliffs on the Valleydale estate. The couple share hungry kisses and scorching caresses. Morgan, however, soon realizes that Arianna is a virgin, and he knows himself well enough to know he doesn’t want to take that from her. It puts a damper on their growing relationship. Fully recovered, Arianna goes to London and settles into society. She intends to present her father’s formula to the Royal Apothecary Scientific Academy, but the man who killed her father is now in London. Morgan follows Arianna to the city, but will his reemergence in her life affirm his feelings for her, or drive her into her stalker’s trap?

Grey writes a sharp story that flows well. She paints a vivid picture of Morgan and Arianna’s world using a good economy of words. Valleydale and the cliffs are rich in description.

Grey brings authenticity to the story through the characters dialogue. She’s done her research and it shows, especially when describing the influence of Indian culture on Arianna.

Morgan and Arianna are interesting characters. Morgan knows himself well, but when he meets Arianna, she beguiles him to the point of madness. He wants her, but realizes the price for having her might lead him to the altar. The question he has to answer is – Is he willing to pay the price? Arianna is a spitfire. She embodies an innocence of English society having spent so much time in India, but she also has a worldliness about her gained through her travels. She knows what she wants – Morgan. But can she have him?

The story is sophisticated for romance readers. The scenes are rich and rewarding. Overall, “An Earl to Enchant” is a nice escape to another time and place.

Schartz pens a fascinating tale of karma and the power of love with “Ashes for the Elephant God.” Fabienne journeys to India to honor her brother’s dying wishes only to come face-to-face with her destiny.

The novel opens with Fabienne making the decision to go to India and spread her dead brother’s ashes in the town of Ganeshpur. Her brother believed in karma and reincarnation, but Fabienne isn’t so sure. Still, she keeps an open mind. Fabienne travels from France to India and stays at the Ganeshpur monastery.

While there Fabienne meets Kora. Kora is also staying at the monastery. Kora has a bad attitude and is full of negative energy. Despite that, Fabienne comes to enjoy monastery life and resolves to help Kora overcome her negativity.

Nearby, an American engineer, Alex Springfield, who the head swami renames Mukunda, is working on a dam. He has a one night stand with Kora who quickly manipulates the event to her advantage. Claiming she’s pregnant, Mukunda reluctantly agrees to marry her.

Stuck in a commitment he doesn’t want, when Mukunda meets Fabienne, he knows she’s his soulmate. Still, he reluctantly stands by Kora. After the dam fails to hold during a flood, Fabienne is trapped in a mudslide. Mukunda realizes he must follow his heart, but is it too late?

Schartz uses a fine touch in dealing with such concepts as karma and reincarnation, never preaching, but showing the reader through the characters the power of karma and how reincarnation allows the soul to grow. The plot is interesting, referring back to Mukunda and Fabienne’s past life. The pacing is a bit slow in the beginning, but reflective of Fabienne’s journey and acceptance.

There are a lot of foreign terms used in the text, but there is a glossary in the back to help the reader along.

The cast of characters is rich and deliciously complex as they have karma to work through. Kora has issues she needs to reconcile. Amit is a good and loyal friend. Fabienne is an honest soul and trusting, almost too trusting. Kora attempts to take advantage of this. Ultimately, Fabienne must come to see who Kora really is and she must stand up to her.

Mukunda has a good heart, but a momentarily lapse of judgment puts him in an impossible situation. He must find the strength and will to overcome.

Schartz’s love scenes are tasteful and sensual. The novel inspires the reader to take a deeper look at their own spirituality. “Ashes for the Elephant God” is an intriguing story about the power of karma and love.

Elton John finishes ‘Candle in the Wind’: Goodbye England’s rose, from a country lost without your soul, who’ll miss the wings of your compassion more than you’ll ever know. Diana’s brother Charles then gets up and makes arguably one of the most memorable public speeches of the 1990s and possibly of the whole of the twentieth century in which he attacks the British Media and the Royal Family for the way they treated his sister. Spontaneous applause breaks out at the end, taking many inside the Abbey, including Tom Fleming, aback.
