This is why I recommend a mid range set of drums, because you can add to it by changing cymbals, bass drum, and so on. This way the drum kit that you have purchased will be able to grow with you as your skill levels improve.

The other choice that you have to make is whether you want an acoustic drum set or an electronic drum set.

This is entirely your choice, but most people when they start to learn to play drums, do so because they like the feeling of raw energy of hitting an acoustic drum kit, and this is the way that beginner drum players start.

Another thing to take into consideration when choosing a drum set is from where you should get it. There is no end of music supply outlets from where you could buy a drum set, or if you know exactly what you are looking for, you could get a used kit which could save you plenty of money; you’d just have to check that everything was in working order.
