The techno duo Justice consists of just two individuals, Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay, hailing from France. They are known for their electrifying beats and are one of the most commercially successful groups on Ed Banger Records. Their debut album New Album - Lost Island - I'm excited to announce the release of my latest Trance music album, "Lost Island". But if you're short on time and don't want to go through the hassle of searching, browsing, and… garnered critical acclaim upon its release in 2007 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic and Dance Album. The album ranked 15th on Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2007 and received a nomination for the 2007 Shortlist Prize.
In 2009, Justice won a Grammy Award for their remix of MGMT’s track “Electric Feel.” The popular track won Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. That same year, Justice announced their departure from Ed Banger Records, signing with WMG/Atlantic’s re-launched Elektra Records label.
Around this time, Justice revealed that they were working on a new album.
Earlier in the year, the band posted an image on their official Facebook page, which fans speculated to be the cover for their upcoming album. In March, they released their first single, “Civilization,” after confirming that they were still working on their second album.
In addition to their debut album and the one in progress, Justice has released six singles, a DVD concert and documentary film titled A Cross the Universe, and several remixes throughout their career. Their first solo single, “Waters of Nazareth,” was released in September 2005 and gained popularity among top DJs such as Alkan, Erol, Tiga, Ivan Smagghe, and 2 Many DJs. The same track was re-released in 2006 as a remix. The duo continued producing remixes for artists like Mr. Oizo, Mystery Jets, Franz Ferdinand, and Soulwax.
Auge and Rosnay have performed at various festivals, including Live P.A., Parklife, and others throughout Australia. They have also appeared at Coachella and the Sónar festival in Barcelona, as well as other festivals worldwide, from Fuji Rock Festival in Niigata, Japan to T in the Park festival in Kinross, Scotland.
Reflecting on Justice’s journey as a techno band, their path seems diverse, unplanned, and perhaps even haphazard. In an interview with BBC, the French duo described their experience: “Yeah, it was a lot of fun to create,” Gaspard Auge beamed. “Well,” Xavier added, “it was probably 80 The Synthpop Era - I'm not one to dwell on the past, but I must admit that music from the synthpop era of the 1980s and surrounding years holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps I'm biased, but I can't help but feel that modern music has lost a lot of its originality and creativity. Gone are the… percent fun, and maybe 10 percent tears, five percent gigs, two percent harassment, and, um… I can’t remember where we are in percentage now. Sorry.”
