There are many social networking web sites such as My Space or Facebook which let users build profiles, upload pictures, play games, incorporate multimedia and acquire new friends. But one Web company with a very simple service is rapidly becoming one of the most talked about social networking service providers: Twitter. Twitters founders are Evan Williams, Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone. Twitter history is very interesting and original. Twitter was born about three years ago. A few years ago Williams created Blogger, which was a popular Web journal service, then Google bought Blogger, and Williams began to work for Google. He and Google employee Stone left the Internet giant to form a new company called Odeo. Odeo is a podcasting service company. Williams didnt have a personal interest in podcasting and under his guidance, the company temporarily lost focus.However one of Odeos products Twitter was just beginning to gather steam. So in which way twitter was born? Who has given this interesting idea? While the stuff of the company was sitting in a park and eating Mexican food, Dorsey introduced the idea of an individual using SMS service to communicate with a small group. The original project code name was twitr,inspired by Flickr and five character lengh of American SMS short codes. The developers considered 10958 like a short code, but later changed it to 40404, because it was easy to remember. The project started on March 21 2006, when Dorsey published first Twitter message at 9:50 PM: just setting up my twitter. There are two version of the projects name. The first is that it was called twitter, because the sound of SMS looks like the sound of birds and the second like was producted by Jack Dorsey the definition of twitter was a short burst of inconsequential information, and chrips from birds.The first Twitter prototype was used as an internal service for Odeo employees and full version introduced publicly on July 15,2006 and since then Twitter has become giant social networking web site and has 200 million users, generating 65 million tweets a day and handing over 800.000 search requests per day. It is sometimes described as the SMS of the Internet.
