The painting processes analyzed in this study aim to investigate the artist’s identity through an exploration of self-awareness. The basic elements of what, where, when, how, and why they occur are described in the following applications, which form a personal narrative.

These processes have been chosen over other media due to the immediacy and fluidity of paint’s response. Despite a background in ceramics, my passion lies in art painting.

Processes

Composition of Art Paintings In my exploration, I will create six art paintings, including abstract and figurative works. I will use various surfaces, and the paintings may feature professionally stretched canvases with concrete underlay (thick black plastic).

Each painting will have uniform dimensions: 120 x 70 x 5 cm. The media used may include oil paint, enamel, oil sticks, Black Japan stain, shellac, pastel, charcoal, and ink. The primary creative focus in this process will lie in the use of alternative elements in painting and the employment of different surfaces. Boundaries will be intentionally imposed by using construction materials to create aesthetics on surfaces not intended for this purpose.

Timing of Paintings The proposed schedule involves painting every second Tuesday and every Thursday for a period of six weeks. Art painting sessions typically occur in the evening, lasting 2 to 3 hours.

Location of Paintings The paintings will take place in a studio set up in a lock-up garage. For the purposes of the study, the computer and reference materials will be arranged on one side of the garage, with the workbench and painting materials on the other. I plan to move quickly and freely between both areas.

Execution of Paintings I intend to follow a timetable of painting processes, which will consist of specific instances in the coming months. The idea of setting a time limit on painting has been considered.

Dialogue with Art Paintings The personal dialogue processes employed in this study combine elements of heuristic research while allowing for a personal narrative. These processes are based on the internal search mechanisms present in the creative-self processes. The dialogues relate to a conversation that occurs between the researcher, artist, and a heightened awareness of the self, the artwork, or another object studied closely. Many artists and art therapists have used these techniques in their research and inquiry.

Purpose of the Dialogue The dialogue task aims to provide a different level of awareness. I expect to connect with my art paintings through the process of dialogue, which will inform me at levels not available through direct experience.

Composition of the Dialogue This process is designed to encompass a journey into art painting. The goal is to virtually enter the art paintings through passages of varying levels of awareness. To access these different levels of awareness, I will use indwelling, self-reflection, meditation Self-realization and meditation (yoga for the mind) - Peter Cajander allowed us to publish this part from his book Fragments of Reality. It talks about life from a personal perspective covering areas ranging from self-realization, meditation, stress, happiness, death, and everyday living. Peter is a writer, philosophical thinker, entrepreneur, strategy consultant, business executive, and author to name a few titles. He has been… , and contemplation. Insights will come through listening to the words in my mind, intuition, or new ideas emerging from or into internal frames of reference.

Location of the Dialogue This task is an internal one, though the external and inter-objective realities in my environment may impact the internal mechanisms. The proposed dialogue will occur in the studio area designated for writing this study. The arrangement of the computer on one side and the art paintings on the other is designed for easy access to writing when dialogue arises.

Timing of the Dialogue The method of dialogue in this study is approached without a structured timetable or schedule. As I have not attempted this process before, I am uncertain whether it will fit into a time frame. I am unsure whether I can summon dialogue at will or if it will emerge unpredictably.

How the Dialogue Will Occur At this point in time, it is mostly uncertain how the dialogue will occur. I am dedicated to fully immersing myself in the inquiry process, and it is likely that the dialogue will naturally emerge from the art paintings through channels resulting from this immersion. I anticipate that creating a unique personal space for communication with my art paintings will allow for the documentation of how the process unfolds.

Reflection on Art Paintings

Purpose of the Reflection The reflection process forms the foundation for the intimate connection between the art painting and dialogue processes. It weaves the fabric from which the evaluation material is created. The sacred observation provides the space and time to assess the experience and to dwell on the emergence of new information.

The reflection process aims to bring together the art painting and dialogue processes, offering a step-back perspective essential for creating art paintings and engaging in primordial self-inquiry.

Components of the Reflection The reflection process in this study will involve transpersonal processes as a means of self-inquiry. It will evoke notions of the experience. These reflection processes will present a unique experiential account of the art painting experience, the dialogue experience, and the overall experiences.

Observations of thoughts, emotions, dreams, dialogue, and art painting processes provide the foundation from which to evaluate the individual internal experience.

Location of the Reflection The reflection is expected to occur within the transpersonal self, where the art painting and dialogue processes take place. It may happen in various aspects of life, such as during driving, walking, meditating, and working.

Timing of the Reflection Similar to the location of the reflection processes, the timeframe of the process encompasses all other processes in this study. I predict that I will bear witness to my art paintings and dialogue processes. The observation is present when I make connective leaps in awareness and when intellectual synapses jump into action. As a result, the internal observer must always be on duty, weaving the elements of my processes together. These observations can then be evaluated into a unified and presentable review.

How the Reflection Will Occur The reflection processes aim to transcend the states of awareness found in art paintings and dialogue. Reflection is expected to occur through the watchful gaze of the transpersonal experience. I will strive to consciously manifest the observation during art painting and dialogue sessions, which will involve dis-identifying with the art painting and dialogue processes.

Findings of the Exploration into Artist Identity The essential elements of why, what, where, when, and how, investigated in the art painting, dialogue, and reflection processes, are found within the art paintings themselves and in some of the text and explanations of each art painting on the website.
