Many games based on the Tron franchise have been developed over the years, with Bmtron 1.1 playing a central role within the film itself. In 1982, Midway Games introduced Tron arcade games, including the light cycles level, which gained popularity and surpassed the initial success of the movie. However, in 1983, there was a crash in the movie game industry.

Another game called Discs of Tron was released in 1983, focusing on disc fights and gaining popularity at that time. Mattel Electronics also introduced three different Tron games for the Intellivision game console. Additionally, Tron movie games such as Deadly Discs and Solar Sailer were developed for home computers but had a short lifespan.

A unique controller resembling the Tron arcade game was created and offered as a free bonus in a special package that included Atari 2600 Tron games. Furthermore, a free light cycle game was published online for PC download, making it easy for users to download and play on their computers. There are also other games like Armagetron Advanced, a well-known cross-platform light cycle game available for Linux.

Tron Sector released a freeware game for Windows called Space Paranoids, inspired by the movie. Two light cycle games called Light Bike and Light Bike 2 were introduced for iOS devices, with similar features in the light cycle arena match, and Light Bike 2 added the ability for players to jump their bikes. BMTron 1.1 was created as a version of Tron 2.0, incorporating design elements that encourage people to play it.

Online games based on the Tron franchise were made easily accessible, with multiplayer matches available in a single game, featuring the space-based Tron environment and the MCP in the background. Special features such as light cycle chairs, tank chairs, and a Tron Arcade Game cabinet were provided with the Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK).

In December 2010, a tie-in movie game titled Tron: Evolution was released. Teaser trailers were unveiled in November 2009, with a longer trailer airing during the Spike Video Game Awards in December 2009. The game was developed simultaneously with the film, allowing for deep exploration of the Tron world and providing players with a greater understanding of the movie’s scenes. This approach of developing a game based on a movie prior to its release allows game developers to gain insight and create a more immersive experience. The Avatar game, for example, further explores the world of Pandora from the movie Avatar.
