This is an experience I've had numerous times during carefree nights at local techno clubs I've often wondered which type of techno generates this unforgettable sensation… . Unfortunately, sometimes their passion outweighs their skill, resulting in the club’s collapse before it can become established. Here are some tips for starting a club that can endure and thrive:
- Choose the right location. A pub or bar is an obvious choice, but try to secure a separate room away from the main bar, such as a back area or upstairs. This offers greater control. Using the main bar makes it challenging to charge an entrance fee, as patrons uninterested in the music will also want access. A separate room also makes it easier to maintain a quiet atmosphere during performances. Ensure the venue has ample parking and is near public transportation, making it more accessible and increasing your chances of success. A quaint countryside pub might be appealing, but if it’s difficult to reach, it’s not practical.
- Secure a diverse lineup of talented performers before starting. Ideally, you’ll need at least 10 reliable acts, as not everyone will be available every night. You don’t want an audience with no performers to entertain them.
- Aim for a varied selection of performers. Irish music is rich and diverse, so your club should represent that. A singer performing Celtic ballads is lovely, but it’s more engaging if the ballads are interspersed with acts performing sing-along drinking songs or a fiddle band playing jigs and reels.
- Occasionally spice things up with a professional act. While this can be expensive, most successful clubs manage to save their weekly earnings and hire a professional once a month. This adds credibility to your club, and the extra patrons drawn by the professional may become regular attendees at your singers’ nights as well.
- Appoint a reliable person to handle door admissions and finances. This aspect can be overlooked, but not everyone can be the star act. Having someone responsible for managing finances is crucial for your club’s survival.
