Classical Acoustic GuitarSo, why Travel Strategies for Guitar?

Protecting Your Classical Acoustic Guitar While Traveling: Tips for Ensuring Its Safe Arrival

When you’re passionate about your music, you’ll want to protect both your instruments and any electronic media, such as CDs, while traveling. Many musicians have suffered due to careless handling by baggage handlers, resulting in damaged guitars upon arrival. This article provides some tips to help ensure your acoustic guitar arrives in good condition at your destination.

a) The carrying case – Use a hard-shell case that can withstand the rigors of travel and is commonly used by companies when shipping such items to other locations. Securing it with a lock or tape will help conceal it from curious luggage handlers and reduce the chances of tampering.

b) Caring for the strings – It’s important to reduce the tension of the Classical Acoustic Guitar strings and loosen them to avoid warping caused by humid weather conditions. However, leave some tension and slightly detune the guitar for added benefit. This tip does not apply to guitars with nylon strings, as they are generally strung less tightly.

c) Ensuring neck protection – The guitar’s neck is the most fragile and vulnerable part of the instrument. To protect it, use bubble wrap and paper padding to provide a cushioning effect in case the guitar is mishandled during transit. The goal is to minimize the space for the neck to move and, with the help of compressed padding, significantly reduce the risk of neck damage.

d) Inspect your acoustic guitar upon arrival – It’s crucial to report any damage immediately upon reaching your destination. This helps confirm that the damage occurred due to negligent handling by baggage handlers rather than your own carelessness. If you’ve taken the necessary precautions while packing, you should have no problem receiving the appropriate compensation for any damages.
