A videogame system is an interactive entertainment device that not only serves as a gaming platform, but also allows for playing music, videos, DVDs, and online connectivity, making it a complete entertainment and infotainment device.

Choosing the right gaming system requires research into the various features offered by different leading brands, and selecting the appropriate device based on one’s needs and requirements. The three main manufacturers of video game consoles are Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, with their Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation respectively being the top contenders in the industry.

By discussing the main features and corresponding advantages and disadvantages of these leading models, one can make an informed decision when selecting the appropriate video game system. Factors such as cost, graphics capability, game selection, and additional features like touch screens, portability, and online capabilities all guide the selection process.

The Nintendo DS is the least expensive video game system, priced at around $129, while the Playstation 3, at $599, tops the price list among the leading consoles. The cost of purchasing new games must also be considered when evaluating the cost of the system. Nintendo games are generally available for far less than games for Xbox and Playstation.

Graphics quality is directly connected to the technologies used, and the latest models and versions of consoles tend to have better graphical capabilities. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have better graphical abilities compared to other gaming consoles, while the Nintendo Wii has lower image features but is still very satisfactory for casual gamers. Older models generally have similar graphical capabilities.

The content of the games in the system is important for kids who are primarily interested in gaming. It is wise to check the games library in the device before making a final decision. Sony’s Playstation and Playstation 2, as well as the Super Nintendo, have a wide variety of games.

For those who enjoy the Mario series of games, they are found on the Nintendo consoles, while the Halo series of games are exclusively on Microsoft’s Xbox and Xbox 360, and the Final Fantasy series of games are only available on Sony’s Playstation 2. The Nintendo Gamecube series has many popular games for kids, such as the GEMs collection and the Pokemon series.

Additional features of the consoles, such as touch screens in Nintendo and flexible online gaming abilities in Xbox, should also be considered when making a decision. A detailed list of desired features in a video game system will help with comparison and evaluation of the various models based on one’s needs and budget.
