If you want to make the most of your voice and achieve a smooth sound and tone from your highest to your lowest notes, these daily vocal exercises can help you reach this goal.
Keep an eye out for my other articles on how to prepare for singing and breathing exercises that you should try before performing the sets below.
Steps:
- Say “le” and “la” out loud, trying to use an Italian accent (pronounce “le” instead of “lay-ee” and “la” instead of “la-uh”).
- Combine the vowels “a” and “e” with the “L” sound in a curving arc-like sound, quickly flicking your tongue to make the “L” sound as brief as possible.
- Practice this exercise for a few minutes.
- Using an Italian accent, pronounce vowels a, e, i, o, u, prefixed with the lip consonant “m.”
- Pronounce these vowels in the following manner: “ma” for the “a” vowel, as in the name Arthur; “me” for the “e” in wheel; “mi” for the “i” in machine; “mo” for the “o” in more; and “mu” for the “u” in the word “tool.”
- To produce the correct “m” sound, open your mouth quickly, which will help you pronounce the sound and project the note.
- Maintain a strong focus on consistent breathing throughout the exercise.
Additional Tips: In singing, Italian vowels are almost always used, so learning and practicing this method of letter pronunciation is essential.
Improving your pronunciation of the following consonants (L, M, P, T, D, F, G, N, S, V, Z) will also contribute to better tongue exercises. For example, instead of using the full length of your tongue to produce the “L” sound, practice using just the tip, curled backward. This actually makes it easier to say.
Steps:
- Take the melody of a familiar song and substitute the lyrics with the Italian vowels from the above exercise for better practice.
- This method is called vocalizing. For example, consider the following: Somewhere over the rainbow / Way up high / There’s a land that I’ve heard of / Once in a lullaby / Somewhere over the rainbow / Skies are blue / And the dreams that you dare to dream / Really do come true.
- With a steady flow of breath, vocalize this example, focusing on the “la” and “ma” sounds.
- Memorize all the lyrics to the song you’re practicing with the Italian vowels, then sing the actual song with the lyrics.
- Instead of looking at the written lyrics, try looking outward and sing as if you are facing an audience watching you perform.
Final Tip: When listening to your favorite songs, try not to imitate the singer’s voice but rather consider it as your interpretation of the song. It can be fun to mimic your favorite pop star, but if you plan to pursue singing as a career, it’s best to perform in your own way to avoid damaging your vocal system and to enhance your potential.

Oh thanks for sharing those steps i was looking for. Yes one should practice as must as he or she can, for better singing. Singing is not something that one can learn within a day. So practice and search some blogs like manuelmarino and start following some extra steps. I love this blog though.
