Trance is an extremely complex genre of electronic dance music, with many separate sub genres that are both connected and distinct from each alternative. Let’s take a look around at the different kinds of trance here. Just be aware that there is more concerned that we may discuss at a later time.

Progressive Trance

This genre is usually described as a more laid back kind of trance with a broad range of sound, usually causing no unforgettable melodic line. Instead there is an focus found on the gentle growing sounds layered together to create a sturdy musical sense of the ambiance. It is a deeper sound that involves more of the tribal techno sound with breaks.

Melodic/Uplifting Trance

Call this sub genre what you’d like – melodic trance, uplifting trance, Euro trance, commercial trance – this music might only plain aged create you feel wise. It’s what many individuals begin hearing to when they initially receive into trance. This kind of trance usually starts with a percussion and bass lead in followed with a sub and main melody. Female vocals are usually integrated into the music, which is the cause it has more of the commercial feel than many other categories of trance.

Goa or Psychedelic Trance

These are really 2 separate sub genres of trance, but due to their close connection with all the hippie culture, they will usually be interpreted as either or.

The primary difference between these trance is the fact that Goa infuses more of the cultural and Middle Eastern feel into it while psy trance (as it is actually frequently abbreviated) has more of the nostalgic and energetic sound.

Dark and Deep Trance

People don’t usually associate darkness with trance, as it is very usually an uplifting genre. But, dark and deep trance is a bit sadder with a more melancholy feel into it. Dark trance is laced with heavier, darker pads and strings than conventional trance music (if there is these a thing). You may hear a more melodic, sublime sound that is less busy with deep trance.

Acid Trance

Acid trance is considered an archaic shape of trance and is sometimes known as ‘hard trance.’ It was pioneered in London through underground parties, peaking in the 90s and spreading all over the world. Acid trance music has a trademark “acid” sound, that is yielded by the Roland TB-303 playing a sequenced melody while changing the instrument’s filter cutoff frequency, resonance, envelope modulation, and highlight controls.
