Wildlife photography The value of photographic prints - Stephan R. Lewis is a professional photographer. He accepted to share his knowledge with us, with this exclusive article. The value of photographic prints I have been in the photo industry trenches for a long time and have watched many things come and go in popularity. When I say 'trenches' I mean not the glamour… and art prints is often considered the most challenging genre of photography. It requires not only technical expertise with camera mechanics and an artist’s eye for composition and color but also the patience and observation skills of a hunter to capture wild animals in their natural state. Additionally, a deep understanding and knowledge of an animal’s behavior and instincts are crucial for locating it and accurately predicting its actions. A fantastic wildlife photo is often the result of hours of preparation, research, and the persistence and insight needed to be in the right place at the right time.
There is no typical day in the life of a wildlife photographer, as their profession demands traveling far and wide to find their animal subjects. The most remarkable wildlife photos often depict the subject engaged in some activity, such as eating, fighting, flying, or running. These images necessitate a fast shutter speed to capture the action without blurring the final result. The photographer must have perfect timing to know the exact moment to press the camera’s shutter button.
Numerous magazines, including National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer Magazine, and Nature’s Best Photography Magazine, showcase high-quality wildlife images in their pages. Additionally, wildlife photography can be enlarged and framed to create stunning art prints that make a dramatic statement in a home or office setting. Often, these are Giclee Prints, a French term meaning “spray,” referring to how the image is printed out by a spray of ink, similar to an inkjet printer. However, these prints are usually larger (often over a meter wide), and the Giclee printer is much bigger than a desktop printer. It uses special lightfast ink that resists fading for 25 years, as long as the image is kept away from direct sunlight.
Wildlife art prints appeal to a wide audience, as they often capture awe-inspiring animals in settings or situations that an average viewer would never have the chance to witness, such as a close-up of a majestic Bengal tiger or an eagle dramatically swooping down on its prey. These images create a powerful impact on the viewer and instill a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world.
