This rock star learned piano when he was 9 and guitar when he was fourteen. He learned to play the drums also, sometime between. He turned to his music after his mom died when he was sixteen years of age, and played with a great deal of neighborhood bands.
In the eighties, he met Lars Ulrich, a drummer, after responding to a newspaper advertisement. Together, they created the band Metallica. James does rhythm guitar and lead vocals. Their authentic bassist and lead guitarist were Cliff Burton and Dave Mustaine. Then Kirk Hammett plays lead guitar while Robert Trujillo plays bass. Before that, while functioning in an commercial device that prints stickers, he played with all the bands Obsession and Leather Charm; both somewhat fleeting.
In Hit Parade’s list of “100 Best Metal Vocalists of All Time”, he was ordered 24th. In Joel McIver’s “The 100 Best Metal Guitarists” he was called 8th. With singles that reached the chart tops and albums that went multi-platinum, Metallica redefined thick metal. In 2009, the band was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
One of their top tunes, “Nothing Else Matters”, rated 11th found on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks and 34th found on the Billboard Hot 100. The track was off their 5th studio album, “Metallica”, which debuted at first found on the Billboard 210 and sold over six 100 1000 units. With James as their principal songwriter, the band appeared unstoppable, winning 9 Grammy Awards.
