Not long ago, someone told me about the rejection notices they received from philosophy Philosophy and Music: Twin Pillars of Well-being - The realms of philosophy and music may seem different at first glance, but both are vital to our well-being and can dramatically influence our quality of life. They serve as guiding principles and inspirations that offer us deeper insight into the human condition. The Philosophical Side of Well-being Philosophy, the study of fundamental questions about… journals, and they felt as if their work wasn’t given proper consideration. The philosopher had some brilliant work, I must say, but wasn’t yet well-known. Let’s discuss this, shall we?
You see, I believe I have some valuable advice, having had my own work rejected before—not by philosophical academic journals, but I have received many rejection notices in my time. Many authors and article writers do. My acquaintance noted, “I had been denied by several publications.” So, what’s my advice?
Don’t worry about it – Press on!
I once read in a book on publishing that well-written book proposals get rejected at a ratio of 70:1 and screenplays for movies around 120:1. To this revelation, I say: defy the odds, rise above them, become the outlier, focus, learn, think, overcome, adapt, and succeed. Seriously, if you do it enough, it will become second nature. Edison tried 1,000 ways to not build a light bulb, and Colonel Sanders received nearly 1,000 rejections. “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up, ever!” – Churchill.
And let’s not forget Calvin Coolidge on perseverance! I have “Perseverance 10 X 10th power” on my mobile command center, connected. Seeking validation from journals may not be a worthy way to judge oneself or one’s brilliant ideas. Consider that these journals have obligations to publish works within the status quo and acknowledged names in our current era of academic scholars.
If you want to contribute to philosophy, “don’t give up” and keep going, challenge yourself, and once you surpass the previous era philosophers, accelerate and don’t look back. If you are in college and working toward becoming an outstanding philosopher, show your work to your professor, but still don’t expect much. Indeed, I suspect a college professor might take your best works of the agile mind and then tuck them into a category of what some dead-white person once said. However, you can read what they said and move beyond it.
Great philosophy doesn’t always come from a late-night epiphany; sometimes it does, but usually, it comes from years of thought, and then the breakthrough, often not even what you were expecting. The best advice, therefore, is to keep going, keep thinking, and recognize the position and reality of those who claim to have a stranglehold on thought—they don’t, they just think they do. Disregard them all and go beyond, and never give up. Please consider all of this and reflect on it.
