Entrepreneurs often prioritize time and financial management when building or managing a business. However, research shows that entrepreneurs also need to pay attention to managing their energy, as it is as crucial as managing their time and invested capital.
If you are a sole proprietor, it is inevitable that you may find yourself taking on all the tasks and functions to get your new business off the ground. While the roles of CEO, CFO, COO, receptionist, salesperson, and now social marketer are important, they can be challenging. Equally important is the role of rejuvenator, ensuring that rejuvenation, healing, and rest (the 3’R’s of the growing entrepreneur) are prioritized in your business.
Wearing multiple hats can be a juggling act, and it requires a significant investment of time. Not every entrepreneur has a magic wand to effortlessly complete all tasks. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge the reality that there will always be more work, another call, or another marketing idea to pursue. With that in mind, it is recommended to set artificial boundaries. Here is a mindset approach to consider:
- Determine specific working hours. Many entrepreneurs struggle with knowing when to turn off work. Establish set open and close hours and stick to them. It is also crucial to set aside personal and vacation time. Decide how many days will be dedicated solely to vacations and personal time, and make a commitment to not bring your mobile phone, computer, or trade magazines with you during those designated days.
- Take regular mid-day breaks. Set aside 15 minutes during the day to do absolutely nothing. Use this time to disengage from the routines of your business or practice. Consider incorporating energy naps to enhance focus and resilience in tackling challenges or generating fresh solutions. The goal is to rejuvenate your mind and restore yourself. Revitalization will provide you with the strength to run and manage your business until you can afford to hire employees if needed.
- Plan your work and work your plan. Set aside time once a week to plan the upcoming week’s activities, including considering your rejuvenation activities. Rejuvenation is equally, if not more, important than continuously developing new marketing strategies or serving the needs of new customers. Being an entrepreneur means being an active participant in society, constantly coming up with fresh ideas and concepts. These inspirations and concepts arise when entrepreneurs allow themselves to relax, rest, and refresh their minds.
Remember, being an entrepreneur is not just about being busy with your business alone. It is also about being a part of society and contributing fresh innovative ideas. These inspirations and concepts are nurtured and captured when entrepreneurs can relax, rest, and rejuvenate themselves.
