Before the world becomes defined by shapes and names, the realm of babies is fluid. Newborn babies can float, but as their bodies grow, their ability to float diminishes, and adults must ensure their safety around water. Music is the only means of restoring a sense of inner peace once the physical ability to float is lost. Music transcends the physical world and soothes the realm of our thoughts, evoking a feeling of bliss. From this perspective, electric guitars and effects pedals may seem somewhat unnatural, almost like artificial knowledge.
Although we are not aquatic mammals or opera singers by birth, we come remarkably close to them. However, we must learn to swim. Similarly, young people cannot create music in a completely natural way. While toddlers instinctively use their muscles and express their emotions through screams and shouts, socialization gradually molds their sonic expressions. Singers, in particular, must diligently work to regain what all healthy toddlers possess, which is the ability to express themselves through sound.
