James Hetfield - Metallica

James Alan Hetfield’s father, Virgil, left the family at an early stage, while his mother’s name was Cynthia. He has a younger sister and two half-brothers. Hetfield’s ancestry includes German, English, Irish, and Scottish roots. He was born on August 3, 1963, in Downey, California.

This renowned rock star began learning the piano at the age of 9 and picked up the guitar at fourteen. Somewhere in between, he also learned to play the drums. Music became an outlet for him after his mother passed away when he was sixteen, and he played with numerous local bands.

In the 1980s, he crossed paths with drummer Lars Ulrich in response to a newspaper advertisement, and together they formed the band Metallica. Hetfield contributes as the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist. The original lineup included bassist Cliff Burton and lead guitarist Dave Mustaine. Later, Kirk Hammett joined as the lead guitarist, and Robert Trujillo became the bassist. Prior to Metallica, Hetfield briefly played in the bands Obsession and Leather Charm while working at a sticker-printing company.

Hetfield ranked 24th on Hit Parade’s list of the “100 Best Metal Vocalists of All Time,” and Joel McIver named him the 8th …

Important String Muting Tactics For Lead Guitar

String muting is another technique that can help you define your individual style. Muting can also allow you to create cleaner and more impressive chords and solos by eliminating unwanted sounds from your guitar.

There are two types of string muting: palm muting with your picking hand and string muting with your fretting hand. They serve different purposes but are both essential for perfect guitar playing.

Fret-hand muting is particularly important when playing chords and power chords. The goal is to use a part of your fingertips and fingers to mute the strings you don’t want to include in the chord being played. For example, when playing the C major chord, you’re only supposed to hit the fifth string to the first, while avoiding the sixth string. I use the tip of my third finger, which is pressing down on the fifth string at the third fret, to lightly touch the sixth string, effectively muting it. I also employ the fleshy part of my index finger to lightly touch strings 1, 2, and 3, with enough pressure to mute them. The advantage is that even if you get a bit aggressive with your picking, it still sounds …

The Origin of Heavy Metal

There isn’t a definitive starting point for heavy metal music. Like many subgenres, it emerged from a blend of external influences and creative elements, but that doesn’t mean we can’t trace its origins to some extent. It’s important to understand the term “heavy metal” in the way it was originally used – to describe bands like Led Zeppelin, rather than the gothic-inclined bands that tend to use the term today.

Pinpointing the exact origins of the term is challenging. “Heavy metal” has been a phrase for a long time, with roots in chemistry principles and science fiction writing. However, identifying when it was first applied to music in our time is difficult. Jimi Hendrix’s manager claims it came from a journalist describing his artist’s performance as sounding like heavy metal falling from the sky. Others suggest it originated from beat poets, with “heavy” as an emotional word that was already applied to music in the 1960s, and “metal” as another slang term used by the hippie counterculture to describe something gritty or dangerous.

Regardless of its origin, “heavy metal” became the primary way to describe 1970s rock music from bands like Led Zeppelin and Grand Funk …
