Robots, by their very nature, are closely associated with science fiction Early Science Fiction On The Airwaves - Science Fiction in Radio Some might argue that Science Fiction has existed as long as civilization itself, as people gazed at the stars and wondered, "what if…" Juvenile Serials from the 1930s The first scifi old-time radio shows were primarily adventure serials aimed at young audiences, featuring a scientific theme, most notably Buck Rogers and… , and this genre appeals to numerous fans. It is fitting that we explore another engaging tutorial on drawing a futuristic robot from scratch. It’s important to note that this article and the following guide are merely sources of inspiration and one potential approach to drawing a robot, as your creativity can be applied to your robotic creations.
Every drawing needs a framework, and a robot is no exception. However, unlike human figures, you can draw a robot based on a human shape or something entirely futuristic with its unique structure and form. In this guide, we use the humanoid structure as a starting point, beginning with an oval shape for the head as usual. Then, sketch in all the joints, such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, pelvis, knees, and ankles, as round circles, and draw the biceps, forearms, thighs, and calves as sausage shapes.
The robot’s torso resembles one large, plump oval egg shape, which doesn’t need to be overly detailed at this stage, as long as it loosely connects to the other robot parts like the arms, legs, and head.
The above framework is ideal for drawing robots, especially as you mark out the areas you want to define. However, it doesn’t have to stay this way since it’s a robot. There’s a tendency to try and draw too much detail at the beginning, but it’s advised against. The more you learn to plan your sketches from the start, the better your drawings will be each time you draw.
The next step is to gradually transform those circles and cylinders into actual robot body parts that look like they could move and function. To do this, simply sketch over the round and cylindrical shapes, using them as the original framework. Let your imagination take over at this point, as you envision a futuristic robot with heavy metal-plated armor or something resembling a metal casing. You can also sketch a weapon on one of the robot’s arms to see if it works.
Details are crucial in this third stage of robotic drawing development, and we can begin to add more distinctive features to our robot’s form. Include cables and buttons, and a blank robot face will make the robot appear emotionless.
Cleaning up the drawing is also a good idea, and inking over the pencil lines will make your drawing stand out.
Drawing robots is a skill that can be learned, just like anything else you might want to draw. So simply enjoy using your imagination to create them.
