Purchasing and collecting abstract canvas paintings and wall art Create Ambiance with Wall Art - Many interior designers agree that wall art is one of the most cost-effective ways to set the atmosphere of any room. With advancements in technology and the evolution of digital photography, your options are vast and potentially just a few clicks away. Wall art can become the focal point of your interior design, but what… is a labor of love. I adore abstract paintings, with gouache being my favorite medium. I recently acquired a piece by Oscar Bluemner, which had been in storage for over twenty years before I hung it in my office.

I discovered an oil abstract wall painting from 1947 by Louis Bassi Siegriest that I found strangely soothing. I appreciated the composition, and the artist had signed the back of the painting. Though it was slightly beyond my budget, I bought it anyway.

Trade Winds is the title of an abstract canvas painting I bought from artist Joanne Riddle while I was in Connecticut. The piece was large, so I had to have it shipped by freight to my home. The blue color in the painting was striking, and the entire composition was incredibly inspiring.

Last year, I bought an abstract painting Why Get An Abstract Oil Artwork - There are several reasons why people may choose to purchase abstract oil paintings for their homes, even if they don't have a formal background in art evaluation. Here are some common motivations for buying abstract art: Filling empty wall space: Bare walls can be unappealing, so homeowners often opt for abstract art to break up… for my sister-in-law by artist Leonardo Nierman, who used oil as his medium. I purchased the piece unframed and took my sister-in-law to a framer to select a suitable frame.

I attempted to buy an abstract painting from the mayor of our town, offering $2,000 for the modernist, abstract, colorful figure that featured red, white, and blue. I wanted to give it to my stepmother, who would have adored it, but the mayor was unwilling to part with it.

My mother decorated her home in a style reminiscent of Santa Fe. I bought her a large abstract canvas painting by her favorite artist, Lou Monti. She has admired his work in various homes and always raves about them. She was thrilled to see the painting I bought her hanging in her living room.

I once dated a man who had a signed abstract painting by Robert Gilberg on his wall. Every time I saw it, I noticed something different. The painting possessed an allure that is difficult to describe. He frequently purchased art and swapped out abstract paintings on his walls, but that piece always remained. I suppose it captivated him as well.

The abstract painting I bought for my older brother didn’t fit in his apartment. It turned out to be slightly too large for the intended space, and the colors didn’t match the only available room for it. I ended up selling the painting on eBay, the same place I had purchased it, and made a profit. My auction had more information about the artist, Richard Diebenkorn, than the original auction I won. I believe the additional hour of research I spent contributed to the painting’s increased value.

I learned long ago that an abstract wall painting is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Some of my friends cannot accept this simple truth. I believe that if nobody wants a specific abstract painting, it is essentially worthless.

My brother used the proceeds from the sale of the unwanted abstract painting to buy another piece. He chose an abstract collage from the late 1930s that looked great in his office.
