Life is filled with ups and downs, as well as transitional opportunities or doorways that we either embrace or forever wonder what life “would have been if.” To better express these complex emotions, many deep thinkers turn to poetry as a way to cope with uncertainty. If this observation resonates with you, then perhaps you’d be interested in exploring some exceptional poetry on these subjects.

If so, let me recommend one of the best poetry books on “life’s transitional periods.” Once you start reading it, you won’t be able to put it down, and fortunately, at fewer than 100 pages, you won’t need to. The book is titled:

“1970 Poems; Transition,” by Leonard Harlig, self-published and printed at Anderson Graphics in Van Nuys, CA in 1970 (93 pages).

In 1970, the renowned contemporary poet Leonard Harlig published his collection of transitional poems from that year.

Each book is numbered, and only 300 copies were printed, making this a true collector’s item. Occasionally, you may find this book on eBay, and if you do, I highly recommend purchasing it and savoring every word.

The poems cover transitions from military service and war back to civilian life, from adolescence to adulthood, from being single to married, family relocation, changing jobs, and health transitions during later stages of life, among others. Each poem strikes a chord, with so much truth and honesty in every word, accompanied by a hint of cynicism that aligns with reality; the irony of what is, what is assumed, and what actually transpires. In any case, you’ll genuinely enjoy it, so please consider exploring this remarkable collection.
