Technology
by RDECOM

4G, or “fourth generation wireless,” is a newer technology that succeeds the 3G (third generation wireless) technologies. As the current generation favors faster communication methods, people are seeking out different ways to transfer information in a rapid fashion. This need has led to the birth of the new technology that is 4G.

According to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standards, the 4G network requires a mobile device to be able to exchange data at 100 Mbit/sec compared to 3G networks which offer speeds of up to only 3.84 Mbit/sec. The network is supposed to provide a comprehensive and secure Internet Protocol solution with much faster data speeds than previous generations. The high speed means that browsing online, downloading, and transferring data is smooth without any interruptions. Companies involved in mobile application development and telecommunication processes are eagerly awaiting the introduction of 4G technology to the market.

Every custom application development firm is incorporating 4G technology in their projects to get the fastest data transfer rate. The faster data transmission rates of 4G protocols can support more diverse and interesting applications, including those that require video transmission, multi-user conferencing, and simultaneous transmissions. 4G technology is based on packet switching, which requires low-latency data transmission compared to 3G, which is based on two parallel infrastructures consisting of circuit switched and packet switched network nodes.

In addition to all of the above benefits, 4G technology promises better reception and fewer dropped calls, as well as greater data exchanges. It is also expected to facilitate streamed multimedia, HD TV, IP telephony, and ultra-broadband Internet access.

As of now, LTE and WiMAX implementations are considered pre-4G. This is because these two technologies do not fully comply with the planned requirements of 1 Gbit/s for stationary reception and 100 Mbit/s for mobile. WiMAX, or Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access, is one of the telecommunication technologies based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, and it uses a number of wireless transmission techniques for data transmission purposes. One of the key features of WiMAX technology is its high-speed data transfer rate. To achieve the goals of 4G systems such as high speed, high reliability, and long-range communications, multiple antenna technologies are emerging in the market. Multiple antenna technologies use several antennas at both the transmitter and recipient end.

To develop the 4G technology network, a large number of working groups have been established. These groups, along with the ITU, have provided numerous proposals, such as the implementation of WiMAX, which is an enhanced and faster version of wireless data transmission than WiFi networks.

As per the latest news on 4G, it is mentioned that China may soon launch a “Fourth Generation” mobile phone program in its commercial market. This is China’s own domestically developed mobile phone program that uses 4G technology. As of now, 4G technology is still in the testing stage.
