Tracing the History of Yoga

The origins of Yoga can be traced back around 5000 years ago when human civilization first began. Scholars believe that Yoga originated from Stone Age Shamanism.

This is because there were cultural similarities between the Neolithic settlement of Mehrgarh and modern Hinduism. The shamanistic culture of Mehrgarh was influenced by Hindu ideals, symbols, and rituals. Shamanism and early Yoga shared similarities as both sought to transcend the human condition.

The primary objective of Shamanism was to heal its members and act as religious mediators.
