Sumerian Art

Arts
by eqqman

More than 4000 years ago, the Sumerians established settlements in the valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. They were the first civilization to transition from a nomadic lifestyle to settled communities, and their inventions transformed the way we live today. Many things we take for granted, such as farming, calendars, and wheels, were all Sumerian innovations. Writing was also developed during this time, and Sumerian art and culture reached a level of sophistication that was remarkable for its era. Sumerian art can be categorized into three main types: ritual objects, state objects, and personal objects.

Dating back to 2400 BC, archaeologists have discovered exquisitely crafted and idealized representations from the Sumerian classical period. Some of these portraits are made of marble, while others are carved from black-gray diorite. Excavations have revealed exceptional talent and artistry in Sumerian art.

Sumerian art was characterized by its complexity and ornate nature, with clay being the most abundant material used. Stone, wood, and metal had to be imported into Sumer, and painting and sculpture were the primary mediums employed. Art was predominantly used for religious purposes.

Egypt’s Mysteries

mysteriesWhat do we mean for Egypt’s Mysteries?

Egypt is undoubtedly the most populous Arab nation in Africa. It is located in the desert and is divided into two parts from south to north by the Nile, the largest river in the world. The presence of the Nile greatly influences the climate in Egypt. The unique weather phenomena indeed is a sign of mysteries itself.

On the western side of the Nile lies the arid Libyan Desert, while on the eastern side, we find the Arabian Desert. The Nile helps to moderate the extreme temperatures of the vast desert, and the majority of Egypt’s population is concentrated along the fertile banks of the Nile. The river eventually forms a delta that extends over 220 km into the Mediterranean Sea in the north of Egypt.

The Nile Delta begins to stretch from Cairo, which is situated approximately 150 km from the Mediterranean Sea, and it represents one of the most fertile and prosperous regions in Egypt. Satellite photos clearly show the Nile Delta as a large expanse of dark green contrasting with the pale yellow color of the desert.

The region encompassing the Nile delta and the Mediterranean coastline of Egypt experiences …

Inspired by nature

The glorious portal of a new year is again upon me. My mind has wondered since the start of 2008 as to which direction my creative self will take.
For me a torrent of feelings were released in 2007 through the making of art. Every human being is subjected to art from the moment of birth until death regardless if they want to or not, the mean-spirited and soulful alike.
Working in both two and three dimensional art since childhood has given me a wide vista to express myself.

2007 started with exhibiting sculpture in a two person show in southern California. New Zealand, Texas, Michigan, France and Massachusetts all housed my collages in one venue or another. The year ended …
