Let's start from… beats refer to the genre of electronic dance music, which is characterized as one of the most ambiguous and free-form styles of melodic music, partially derived from house beats. Trance music beats are defined by a tempo of roughly 125 to 150 beats per minute, featuring repetitive melodic synthesizer phrases and a building up and breaking down of the musical structure throughout the track.

Trance music beats can be divided into a large number of sub-genres, including Acid trance, Euro trance, Goa trance, Progressive trance, Hard trance, and Uplifting trance.

Euro Trance

Euro trance is a fusion of various trance music styles, including progressive trance, hard trance, and dream trance. It is characterized as a neutral style that is possibly the easiest to understand. Euro trance music beats typically have a tempo of around 140-145 bpm with a fair number of large rifts. The vocals in trance music beats are often pitched high for most parts, although they can be heard in the general pitch range, albeit rarely. This is why they are often confused with vocal trance music beats.

Goa Trance

This form of electronic music Trance Music - Free Flowing Electronica - Have you ever found yourself dancing in a club, utterly absorbed in the melody, feeling as if the trance music is flowing through you and guiding your body's movements? This is an experience I've had numerous times during carefree nights at local techno clubs I've often wondered which type of techno generates this unforgettable sensation… originated in Goa, an Indian state. It is characterized by a complex melodic structure of trance music beats that emerged in the early 1990s.

Musicians from around the world have developed Goa trance music beats, incorporating elements of Indian Ragas.

Goa trance music beats are highly energetic, featuring 4/4 beats, often incorporating 16th or 32nd notes. Goa trance music beats typically have a more pronounced and stronger bass line than other trance music beats.

Progressive Trance

Progressive trance generally has a laid-back feel to it. Compared to other standard trance styles, it is characterized by more breakdowns with minimal acid-like sounds and changes in the bass-chord. Progressive trance music beats are slower, ranging from 130-140 bpm, with a wide array of sounds. In comparison to Euro trance, the rifts in progressive trance music beats are more subtle and less uplifting than those in Goa or Euro trance.

Hard Trance

Hard trance music beats originated in Frankfurt and are characterized as being very aggressive and featuring slower trance elements. The influence of hardcore is clearly noticeable in hard trance music beats. It is a fusion of traditional trance sounds and structure with harder elements. This genre emerged around 1993 and gained popularity in the late nineties.

Acid Trance

Acid trance is often referred to as the “first-wave” trance, which was popular in the early nineties. This style features the Roland TB-303 bass machine as the lead synthesizer.
