So, you’ve just purchased your very first drum set kit and you want to learn how to play drums. Or maybe you don’t have your own drum set yet but still have the passion to learn drums. Don’t worry! You can still learn how to play drums by yourself with just two sticks and a practice pad. You also need the right resources to help you learn the instrument effectively. Learning to play drums is quite easy, and you may not even need a drum set when you’re just starting out.

Easy Ways to Learn to Play Drums!

The first thing you need to learn when playing the drums is counting. You must understand how to count the beats in each play. The most common and simple rock drumming beats are found in the time signature of 4/4, where 4 counts are played in each bar before repeating the beat. This will serve as the foundation of your beat pattern. Start by counting and playing with your dominant hand, usually the right hand, then work on your left hand playing the snare drum. Adding the bass, snare, and cymbals on the count is quite easy. This will form your basic drum beat.

Approaches to Learn to Play Drums for Beginners!

Now that you understand the importance of counting, you can explore different beat patterns built around the basic pattern. You can search online for various beat patterns to enhance your rock drumming beat pattern and grooves. The next thing to focus on is your stick technique and control. Learning how to play your stick basics effectively will greatly help in developing your freedom and speed when playing on your drum set kit. If it’s your first time, don’t rush and go too fast. Take it at a pace where you feel comfortable. Make sure you get a feel for the drum set and your sticks. Once you have mastered this, you can start experimenting with different tempos and playing along to various songs.

Remember, learning to play drums is a journey, and it requires practice and patience. Keep practicing regularly, and you will continue to improve your skills. Enjoy the process and have fun exploring the world of drumming!
