Naturally, an additional monitor provides you with extra space. And just like in the physical world, once you have that space, you discover different ways to utilize it. The true benefits of having this extra space become apparent when you can actually see what you can do with it.
The most obvious advantage of having two monitors is the ability to have multiple applications open simultaneously. Sometimes you get “Notepad,” sometimes you get “Wordpad,” and sometimes you get both. Wordpad is a more advanced version of Notepad and can open older “Write” documents. It can also open rich text files (.rtf) and plain text (.txt) files.
Many people see Wordpad as an upgrade to Notepad, and in many ways, that’s exactly what it is. However, it lacks enough features to make me want to use it.
