Drummers sometimes find themselves stuck in traditional methods – drums should be made of wood, cymbals should be round and made of bronze, and so on. But are today’s drummers going through a similar experience as guitar players or pianists did when electric guitars or synthesizers emerged? I believe we should embrace the technology rather than shy away from it, as electronic drum kits are here to stay.

So, what are the advantages? Firstly, the sounds available on electronic kits are unmatched. To achieve similar sounds on an acoustic kit, you would need to invest a significant amount, which may be beyond the budget of many people.

Need a new set of cymbals? Well, you can save up your hard-earned money for a year or two to buy some… Or simply press a button on your electronic kit, and voila! You have a fresh set of cymbals, or even a cowbell, or whatever you can imagine.

Living in an apartment? No problem – put on your headphones and practice until 3 a.m. without receiving a noise complaint from your neighbors or the council.

Want to work on playing with a click track or play along to your favorite tracks on your iPod? Not an issue – hit a button, and you have a built-in metronome. Connect your iPod, and you can play along, pretending you’re your favorite drummer.

Playing in a cover band and need a wide range of drum sounds but don’t want to carry around a massive kit like Terry Bozzio? No problem – you have multiple kits at your disposal. Record at home or in a studio without the need for expensive drum microphones, or record as a MIDI file and change the drum sounds later.

In summary, electronic drum kits offer a range of benefits. They provide high-quality sounds, convenience, versatility, and the ability to practice and perform in various settings. It’s time to embrace the technology and explore the possibilities it offers to enhance our drumming experience.
