Art Deco draws much of its styling from the popular art movements of the time, Cubism and Futurism. Cubism, led by renowned artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, involved breaking up objects in a painting and reassembling them in an abstract way. Futurism, which started in Italy, emphasized industry and technology and their impact on the world. Now that we have some background on Art Deco, how can you apply its design principles when decorating your home?
Common motifs in Art Deco pieces include zigzags and geometric shapes with bold patterns. Typical materials used in this style of decor are aluminum, lacquered wood with inlay, and stainless steel.
